Would you care to elaborate what ******* refers to? I can think of several that won't pass muster, and, some that do................cooking, for example.
Dave

Geez, think back to your misspent youth.
2 different words can be inserted, neither of which would pass muster.
Hint: Having a blanket is a good idea.

The drift is the best part of the forum. We bring something to the drift table. The forum member who started this needs a attaboy.
Rock on drifters.

Did you know we been adrift for over two years now?

The first one to drift was Phil. And for that I think he's doomed to forever babysit us.

Sunday Afternoon

47°, feels like 44°! Rain started again, sun never came out! If it wasn't for the green growth one could think it was winter! 😖
Forum action to us tablet users in eastern IA. is as gray and cold as the day?
Getting close to the time to go get the horses out of the pasture.
Watching Claridges on PBS, about the hotel in London.
Ever wonder if your lifestyle would really change if you were to win the lottery or somehow (legally 😉 ) come into money! A guy I used to work with and I both agreed that for most of us beyond paying off the bills, a new truck or car, some travel, most of us would maintain a lifestyle we knew and were familiar with. The really rich, royalty, big name rock and movie stars lifestyle and notoriety is something average people could not maintain after the initial rush! 😮

May 1st 1945 on board the LST (M) 677 USS Yolo.

Mr. Belmont is mentioned in Homer's entry. Mr. Belmont and my father, Mr. Selke were both Ensigns at the time and had gone through Attack Boat School together in Florida and reported aboard the then LST 677 together in 1944 at New Orleans. I believe Mr. Belmont is still alive and somewhere in NJ. I'll ask my father next week at our Mother's Day family get together.

Now Homer Bast's notes on the day off the shore of Okinawa.

May 1, 1945

No GQ this night. The wind has steadily increased over the last two days. The result is a heavy swell with high waves that break on shore. After loading, Yolo was underway at 0800 to return to her regular anchorage. Steering a course through the maze of anchored and moving vessels takes concentration and some skill. This bucket only handles well at full speed, which is rung up and we hang on. Wending and weaving between, among and around vessels, Yolo finds her spot and drops the hook. Mr. Belmont supervised the anchoring procedure. Meanwhile, crewmembers of other vessels ask "Where have you been and why were you gone so long?" Over-night seems like an eternity to some.

As this is the first of the month much work must be done on the men's rates. Looking up qualifications and checking records took most of the day. As naval expansion slows, the opportunities for advancement are not as great. Men do not understand the procedure and sometimes are disgruntled. Both the Exec and I talk to the men about studying for a higher rate.

After dinner there was time to show "Once Upon A Honeymoon." The night is dark and the wind increases in intensity. The low hanging murky clouds indicate rain. The ship swings broadside to the swell and remains there rolling. If not battened down, loose gear rolls around the deck. In spite of the weather unload¬ing continues. The lights on the anchored ships are ablaze. Just 100 yards away a large transport disgorges newly arrived troops adding to the combatant forces here. They are needed!

I've just been napping? What'd I miss,
Well, let's see: First, the Earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes-Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't believe it.
