A time for remembrance.
Buried in our little towns cemetery at the North edge of town
is a USMC retired Gunny Sargent. He served proudly for 20
years in his beloved Corp. Saw action in Viet Nam and also
was stationed overseas for awhile in Okinawa and Japan.
He was a good father, husband to mom, and grandfather.
He raised myself and my two brothers to be respectful, proud,
Americans.
He never talked of what he saw and i did not feel
the need to reopen old wounds that were his and his alone.

He believed in God, Country, Family, and the Marine Corp.

This weekend i Honor my father and all those who have made
the ultimate sacrifice.

The pool party just ended. Grandson and his buddies have been swimming, jumping, running since 2:00 this afternoon. They had a blast! And picked a perfect day for a pool party.

The other two guys parents have been calling for hours, figuring they would have been tuckered out hours ago. And thinking we'd be sick of them? They don't bother us. I never saw them except a couple of times I went to check on em. But they were hard at it for over 7 hours.

Now my chore, will be to pick up, towels, gator aid bottles, water bottles, chip wrappers, ETC. But I don't mind. I'm glad they had fun! And their butts will sleep good tonight!

Happy day before Memorial Day. Happy Memorial Day, in advance.
BCC, so sorry you lost your feline companion. 24 years is quite a long life for a cat. Again, my codolances.

bigride, that vid of the little Schnauzer "Benji" had me in tears.
I had a schnauzer myself. Huckleberry. His name had a special meaning to me.
Early 1996, I decided I was going to, in one year, have 4 H's.
House.
Hound.
Harley.
Husband.
The "hound" had to be a Schnauzer. Didn't want anything else.
Fast forward to 1997. Had just closed on my house. Where was I going to get $900 to buy a dog?
No problem. I asked for him to come to me, free.
Two weeks after I finished moving in, I found an ad in the "Bargain News".
Free to good home. Pure bred male Schnauzer. 6 years old.
He was my miracle dog. Sometime I'll tell y'all about the whole adoption episode. Right now, I'd cry again.

Didn't finish diggin' and plantin'. But I'll get it done, bit by bit.
Bit by bit's the only way my body's letting me do it.
I did get my starts though. If the weather's not too horrific tomorrow, I'll get some more done.

Night-night, my Drifty pals. Sleep well.

Isis, are you still in touch with Parsly? I know you haven't mentioned him in a while...recently, this picture emerged. He doesn't have his shiny suit on, & you can see what kind of wages he's working for. Should we be concerned?

Good evening fellow drifters! It was another hot humid day at Camp Sitonyourassis! It was a day of relaxation though, with some cold beverages to help beat the heat! ;)
Currently we are getting rain, some leftovers from some crummy tropical storm! Why can't they keep their crummy weather in the tropics? I'm hoping that all those being really effected by this are getting through it safely!
Anyone hear from vonn lately?
Just finished watching the Memorial Day Celebration Program on the PBS station, really enjoy watching that and the soldiers stories that they tell. Just learned about a soldier from here locally that won the Medal of Honor for what he did in Anzio. He wiped out two Nazi machine guns and 60 Nazis total with a BAR. The General called him a one man Army for what he did!
I like when they do the Armed Forces Medeley at the end, along with God Bless America. ;)
To all you here that have served and have loved ones currently serving, My hats off to you and I salute you all! Have a Happy Memorial Day.!
I never served, came close to going in the Navy though, but one thing I always enjoyed going to, and participating in was the local Memorial Day Services when I was active in the Fire Department. ;)
My father served Army Air Force WWII, his father U.S. Navy WWI, My brother U.S.Army, Iraqi Freedom, My nephew, currently U.S. Army currently stationed in Texas. My uncle served U.S. Army WWII in Panama.
My Son In Law, U.S. Marines two tours Afghanistan and last but not least appreciated my Father in Law who served U.S. Navy during Korea, he is now deceased and sadly missed!
I'm proud of each and everyone of them! :D
I have many friends who served in Vietnam from the Army, Navy and the Coast Guard. I'm very proud to know them as well, some of these guys I went to school with, some I worked with.
Well that's my story, and I am one American who is proud to say I'll never forget! God Bless you all and God Bless America! :)

Proof That Prehistoric Man Ate Sweets

Wednesday night we got home after 15 days in the southern Nevada desert. We had lots of fun. One of the main things I did this time, was to go rockhounding out near Lake Mead, and in the hills northeast of Beatty. I found lots of agates, and a big beautiful piece of petrified wood. The most interesting find, however, were these fossilized desserts. One appears to be similar to an Oreo, one looks like a Hostess something or other, and the other two are clearly fragments from a Fig Newton. Early man's culinary prowess astounds me! And yes, I tried enjoying them with a cup of coffee, but they were somewhat stale.

I included a photo of the petrified wood. Our local rock expert, who I've become friends with, sawed a slab off and polished the face to show the colors. I set a .45 Colt round next to it for size reference. For those curious, I found it in the Beatty wash, about 5 miles NE of Beatty, which is on Highway 95 about 115 miles from Vegas.
