Annoyed at thread drift

It's a sad day at the raljr1 house today. Many of you Drifters know that our son is a SSGT in the US Army. He was home over the weekend and we won't see him for at least a year as his Uncle Sam has plans for him.

When he was two years old, I was paneling our game room and he was playing outside the garage. He was using a stick that fell from the tree as a sword. I told him that he needed a better weapon than that to battle monsters, and I fashioned him a sword out of a piece of 1x2 furring strip. I figured that I'd toss it in the wood pile when he was done playing with it at the end of the day. Well, he slayed many a monster with his "magic sword" over the years, and numerous chunks of that sword were lost on dragon hides.

Upon leaving here today, he left behind a couple of tote bins for safe keeping. These are things he didn't want to entrust to the storage company. I opened one of the totes to decide where best to store them, and this is what I found. 30 some years later, with chunks missing and faint traces of monster blood.....raljr1 is typing thru tears today....thanks for listening.

Thanks for posting. I was reading through tears.

And on this date in 1945 my father's older brother, a flight surgeon in the Army Air Corp who was fluent in the German language was going through medical documents to find out if the Nazis knew things we did not.

Back to Homer's diary, USS Yolo LST (M) 677...

May 30, 1945

No raids last night. I slept fitfully in the sea cabin. In spite of the torrential rain accompanied by an electrical storm slowing operations, Yolo provisioned priority vessels with the little foodstuff available. For the last few days around the harbor there has been much activity. Some 42 LSTs arrived this day; most were here before. The Japanese pocket of resistance narrows although the fighting is fierce. The number of artillery rounds fired on American positions has dropped from 15,000 rounds daily to 500 rounds. At least 242 enemy aircraft were downed in May at a cost of 24 ships damaged or sunk. Can we withstand such losses among the destroyer types?

Lt. Col. Richard P. Ross, commander of 1st Battalion, 1st Marines braves sniper fire to place the division's colors on a parapet of Shuri Castle on 30 May. This flag was first raised over Cape Gloucester and then Peleliu.

I went for a nice long hike earlier, figuring that my wife'd opt for a shorter after work hike.
She just got a new pair of hiking boots and wanted to start breaking them in today with a shorter hike.
Instead, she wanted to go a good long ways.
According to my LifeTrak watch, I ended up with hiking 10.06 miles, 25,898 steps and burning 4,083 calories today.
I think I may skip leg day tomorrow at the Y.

Hey-hey 'n Howdy, Drifters!
Nice evenin' here.
Got the cukes in.
Got eleven tomato plants in.
Didn't get to the peppers, but finished prepping the bed they'll go in.
I'm plum tuckered out.
I didn't skip leg day. Or arm. Or back. Or shoulder.
In each of those spots there are muscles that are reminding me they haven't had a workout like that
since the start of gardening season last year.

Hope y'all have had a super weekend.
Now I'm going to go to my bed. I'm bushed.
Dang. That reminds me. I haven't put in any beans yet.

Night-night!
P.S. Hey, raljr1. I teared up too.

Had a great weekend visiting family down in Virginia.
Wifeys family is from Blacksburg area and it is Beautiful
country. We all laughed until our bellies ached and had
an all around blast.
Got home after a 7 and a half hour drive and i was ready
for a short nap. (WV turnpike is always fun).....

Woke up refreshed and wifey asks if i feel up to going to the
local High School's Baseball sectional finale. Game started at
7PM so we went and got a quick bite at SteaknShake and off
to the game we went.
The local boys won the game 12-9 and now move on to the Regional.

I'm tired from a full weekend but expect to make a full recovery.
As they say in baseball, He's listed as day to day !!
I've always thought this to be a funny injury report...
Because aren't we all ???

Well it's down to the Golden State Warriors & the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 7th game was exciting & nerve wracking. I was rooting for GSW, even though I would normally be cheering for the Thunder, as I lived in OKC for several years. But since they were the ones that eliminated San Antonio, I couldn't bring myself to cheer for them. I hope GSW trashes the Cavaliers, no offense to any Ohioans out there. I just can't stand LeBron James!
