CCW K Frame 6"

Think it would have to be OWB or maybe cross draw .. its almost 12 inches in total length .. and over 44 ounces loaded ..

You would have to wear a belt and suspenders to keep your pants up ..

I would think a good vertical shoulder holster under a sweater or a coat. The Dirty Harry way. But outside of trying to impress the ladies with the length of your barrel...why? :D:cool::D

I look at the 6" or longer barrels as a "Hunting" revolver and
think a 4" as a maximum for carry with a 2-3" the easier to hide and handle.
The weight of a K frame calls for a sturdy holster set up and I
agree on the Dirty harry or Joe Friday rigs.

Nothing worse than having to pull your pants up all day from a
bad belt or suspender system. (first deer hunting trip)

I might add, exercise is needed to keep the muscles and frame in good shape with a heavy weapon. If your body is over the hill it might not be the best thing to do.
Good luck.

A little red wagon??

Seriously, perhaps a shoulder holster.

I'm a pretty big guy at 6-2 & 200 but I'm also 70 and would not attempt to carry anything this big. For younger folks maybe a shoulder holster but at 40 oz. that's quite a load.

I often open and field carry my 4 inch or shorter K and L frames but always with either a vintage Bianchi 2.25 inch River belt or a Bullhide belt. Personally, I wouldn't even attempt to CC the 4 inchers, but maybe the 2 and 2.5 versions.

Carrying a 6" K concealed is pretty ambitious.

I suppose a shoulder holster would work, but I'd rather have a root canal than have to wear such a thing all day.

This sounds like an experiment likely to be quickly abandoned.

Old Cop, post #8;

Heck, I'm 6 foot 2 inches and weigh in now at 280pounds...........

and I never carried a 6" K frame or larger above my waste.

After seeing Carol Dota in SF in the early years on stage, I NEVER wanted to have that type of problem !! :D

Years ago when it was all I had I carried a 6" M19 in a Bianchi X15 shoulder holster. Summer time was not fun, loose shirt and adjusted the rig high, very hot. Winter carry was kinda "Dirty Harry"ish with the holster adjusted to let the cylinder ride about 2 inches above the belt line. Concealed fairly well, never got busted. As soon as I could afford one I snatched up a snubbie, but even now I carry a 6 inch L frame in the same holster in the winter, just for the fun of it.

I carried a 4 inch 357 in various shoulder holster for year while a LEO for our issue weapons. That was at the height of the Dirty Hairy craze. Still use one with my 6 inch 686 scoped and 41 magnum.

But for real life it is one of my J frame or the 2 1/2 686. The 686 within 35 yd I can match a 6 inch. Draw and fire faster then a 6 inch and not the problem with carry and concealment.

Once again you lose the "cool factor" of a Dirty Harry look a like. But that's not why I carry

I will occasionally take my 6" Model 19 out for the day. Maybe a trip to the range, maybe a walk in the woods.

As shown in my avatar I use a modified Threepersons' style holster with Hank Sloan style hammer shield. This rides moderately high, but can still be a bit unwieldy when driving or getting into or out of the car.

Concealment requires a cover garment that will drape well below the waist.

It can be done, but it requires some thought and is not for everyday applications.

I carried a 4" K frame all day today in an Alessi belt slide. I have an Amish thick bridal leather belt and it rides just fine. I wouldn't think 2 more inches of barrel would make a lot of difference. Some of my shirts have nice long tails and would cover it OK.
Peace,
Gordon

If a six inch barrel K-frame was the only gun you had, then carry it because it's better than being unarmed.

That said, IMO that's a duty gun (from 30-40 years ago) that belongs in black basketweave along with your cuffs, Mag-lite and speed-loaders (or has been said in earlier posts, a good shoulder holster if you were an inspector); at the first opportunity I'd be on the lookout for something a bit easier (and lighter) to hide.

Unless your name is Callahan or Crockett a big, heavy gun in a shoulder holster gets old fast. Been there, did that, and changed to a snub nose real quick, especially in warm weather.
