I have a terrible chest cold so smoking brisket is akin to hot boxing saddle burrs.

Dad's ashes reside on mom's mantle. Every holiday, he wears the appropriate hat (elf, party, service, "1 dad", leprechaun, jester, etc.

My brother and I go over and in honor of dad, tell each other what complete dipsticks we are and that no way could we be spawns of his loins.

Mom gets teary.

Good afternoon, we just got back from breakfast with the son and DIL.
It was great along with great company! ;)
Didn't here from my daughter yet but I'm sure I will! :D along with something to say from the granddaughter! :D
We're back at the Campground Retirement village, really peaceful and things are heating up! ;) A really nice day here!
Met a couple last night from Tennessee, just cruising through on the way to someplace else, I may have to look them up since they both had some interesting views on the 2nd Admendment! ;)
Will check back, stay cool, stay safe and drift on! :D

Beer of the day at my sister's was Blue Moon Belgian Table Pils. A seasonal light dry Pilsner style lager with a hint of orange. At 4.2% ABV it is refreshing. Brewed in Golden, Colorado. Blue Moon is owned by Molsen Coors, which is part of Miller Coors, which is part of SABMiller. Decent light beer, I had two.

Summer Solstice

Just saw on the news. We are expecting 14 hours and 36 minutes of day light tomorrow. Of course the longest day of the year.

And they said our Brothers and Sisters in the south west are expecting crazy hot temperatures! So to all in Arizona and New Mexico, Southern California, PLEASE be careful! And Please watch your pets! Keep yourself and your pets hydrated!

I hope everyone had a Great Baby's Daddy Day! Enjoy the rest of your evening. And let us know how your day went. Inquiring minds want to know!

Homer Bast's notes for the USS Yolo are short for this date 1945.

I'm attaching a picture of my dad and older brother from today's lunch at my younger sister's home. My cellphone does not do good pictures in low light, but it's all I got right now. Great men the both of them.

Now for the Captain's Diary:

June 19, 1945

Loading was scheduled for 0530 but because of the weather and the heavy swell in particular, it was delayed. Now that summer is upon us the wind blows from the southwest from the open sea and thus brings with it a heavy swell. Prior to this the wind blew from the northeast or east and thus land protected us. In walking about the ship and talking with the men I see that they are restless; tempers flare. They have not been on land for four months; they object to the manhandling loading procedure without something mechanical to help. We have tried dividing the men into teams and entering competition into the system.
