Wasn't sure if this goes here, about a TV show, or in the revolver forums. But some members have bought those S&W M10's used by Australian police. Some have square butts and three-inch barrels. Other models seem to have also been used.

Here's a TV show called, "Blue Heelers." Yes, I know that's a breed of cattle dog, but is also a slang term there for cops.

Look at the characters in this episode. See where they get their guns at the station and holster them. Evidently don't carry off-duty. That's at about 24:03 in the episode. Note that both Maggie Doyle and the male cop get what look like heavy barrel M-10's, four-inchers. Then continue to watch. Does it look like Maggie's gun has a round butt and the other fellow has one with sq. butt? Did Maggie prefer a round butt, to fit her smaller hand, and were female constables given that option? We have members there in Victoria state, where Melbourne is located (The show is set in small town Mt. Thomas, prob. a fictional location.)

In tne very first episode, Maggie was new in town and drew what looked like a snub (2.5-inch barrel) M-19, with which she killed an attacking dog on some grouchy old rustic's farm. But her holster, like others, seems made for a four-inch barrel, more likely for a uniformed cop.

This was a very popular show that ran from 1994-2006, I think. You may recognize Maggie in a later role, where she played the executive officer of HMAS Hammersley on, "Sea Patrol", years later. (Lisa McCune is the actress.) I posted here previously about that show, which became a favorite after I found it on YouTube. I think you can see all 12 seasons of, "Blue Heelers" there, too, and I'll probably watch all. We don't get Australian TV here, but they have some really good shows and talented actors.

Our member(s) who got Victoria Police shoulder patches and holsters from Australian contacts will enjoy seeing the uniforms in this series. I think the holsters and belts were made by a firm called Helwig. Anyone who knows, please comment.

And now, G'day. I'll get out of the way and let you enjoy the show. But keep an eagle eye out for those guns. And pay attention and learn Aussie slang. "Tucker" means food. "Nick" means to steal, etc. This is a clever episode, where secrets emerge and some wrongs get righted, if a bit unofficially.

Be sure to also watch the episode just after this one. You'll see the M-10's used to capture some crims. The pistol they had was a CZ-75 with the older rounded trigger guard.

The detective, P.J., had a snub M-19. Don't know if he had .357 ammo. They didn't discuss that.

Saw your thread this morning, but have been running all day... I'm going to take a look when I get back home later this evening!!! Mostly this summer, any tv that I watch has been streaming video of some of the old thirties, forties, and fifties cop and gangster movies, and "Film Noir".

I have been avoiding any political coverage, since most of it is so biased that it .... Well, I'd better not go there. Any way, no commercials, and just movies!!! Can't beat it.

I saw the posts that you were referencing above, and was interested in the 3" model 10s. I've been keeping a lookout for them. Bud's had some a few years ago, and I thought about getting one for a project gun, and foolishly passed. They seem to have dried up. Still have an eye peeled, though.

Best Regards, Les

I watched some of the video. At the beginning of the program when they were back from the accident Maggie has a round butt. At the 24 min point she took out a square butt; more than likely a continuity issue. The cop who had to go home and change shirts took his Model 10 with him to the house. I noticed he is a lefty. I think I have one of those Aussie Model 10-8's but haven't been able to confirm.

Lisa McCune is a very well known and liked actress in Australia now and has won many awards. I really liked her in "Sea Patrol".

I was a fan of, "The Lost World" (TLW) show filmed in Queensland from 1999-2002 and read that star Rachel Blakely was on, "Blue Heelers" at some point. I don't know if she was just a guest star or was a series regular later in the series. I'll be looking for her.

Was also a star on, "Mortified" after TLW ended. She had a tremendous following on TLW, especially among women fans.

She once took time off from, "Mortified", drove 65 miles to a hospital and visited an American fan who had been injured in a swimming accident. Took her photo albums from TLW and gave the lad a kiss as she left. And didn't alert the media to use this as a publicity event! Not many American stars would do that.

I did like Lisa McCune in both BH and Sea Patrol. But my favorite actresses on the latter were those playing Boomer and Nikki. The one playing Boomer (Rebecca Allen?) came to the USA, but I forget which show hired her and don't know if she's still here. The guy who played the enlisted man that Nikki fell in love with left, "Sea Patrol" to join some medical show here, but I don't recall his name. I hate doctor shows, so never saw him on that one.

Lara Cox, who played Finn in the final season of TLW, came to the USA, but I think landed just one commercial. Pity. She's a good actress, very versatile. She played the wife of the hero in the excellent DVD movie, "The Marine 2". NOT to be confused with the entirely different, "The Marine", a much worse film with a different cast. Lara had a voice coach on, "The Lost World", to help her sound American. She fakes a US accent quite well. Also guest starred on the awful, "Beastmaster."

Australia has some fine actors, and many are here, faking US accents. Two were on the series, "Without a Trace." Do you know who they were? Margot Robbie is a new, big, star here now, too.

Of course, Renee Bargh on "Extra!" is Australian. But she doesn't hide the accent.

I really like, "Blue Heelers." Try a few episodes and you may get hooked.
