Wasn't sure if this goes here, about a TV show, or in the revolver forums. But some members have bought those S&W M10's used by Australian police. Some have square butts and three-inch barrels. Other models seem to have also been used.
Here's a TV show called, "Blue Heelers." Yes, I know that's a breed of cattle dog, but is also a slang term there for cops.
Look at the characters in this episode. See where they get their guns at the station and holster them. Evidently don't carry off-duty. That's at about 24:03 in the episode. Note that both Maggie Doyle and the male cop get what look like heavy barrel M-10's, four-inchers. Then continue to watch. Does it look like Maggie's gun has a round butt and the other fellow has one with sq. butt? Did Maggie prefer a round butt, to fit her smaller hand, and were female constables given that option? We have members there in Victoria state, where Melbourne is located (The show is set in small town Mt. Thomas, prob. a fictional location.)
In tne very first episode, Maggie was new in town and drew what looked like a snub (2.5-inch barrel) M-19, with which she killed an attacking dog on some grouchy old rustic's farm. But her holster, like others, seems made for a four-inch barrel, more likely for a uniformed cop.
This was a very popular show that ran from 1994-2006, I think. You may recognize Maggie in a later role, where she played the executive officer of HMAS Hammersley on, "Sea Patrol", years later. (Lisa McCune is the actress.) I posted here previously about that show, which became a favorite after I found it on YouTube. I think you can see all 12 seasons of, "Blue Heelers" there, too, and I'll probably watch all. We don't get Australian TV here, but they have some really good shows and talented actors.
Our member(s) who got Victoria Police shoulder patches and holsters from Australian contacts will enjoy seeing the uniforms in this series. I think the holsters and belts were made by a firm called Helwig. Anyone who knows, please comment.
And now, G'day. I'll get out of the way and let you enjoy the show. But keep an eagle eye out for those guns. And pay attention and learn Aussie slang. "Tucker" means food. "Nick" means to steal, etc. This is a clever episode, where secrets emerge and some wrongs get righted, if a bit unofficially.
