New owner with a potentially silly question!

Hello! I bought my SD9VE about two months ago, and went firing with it about three weeks ago. Since then (and before) It's been sitting in a foam case under lock and key.

Earlier today, though, I noticed my slide is sitting crooked when not locked in place. I never look at the barrel head on for obvious reasons but something was off and I wanted to see.

Is this an easy fix, or should I contact S&W about a warranty repair?

Picture attached is how it looks currently. Only one who has access to the firearm is me. Slide operates smoothly, discharges fine (I loaded one round and ejected it in a safe place), and I haven't found any other information about it.

Field strip it, then put it back together. Rack the slide a few times and see if that does anything. If it still looks the same way and you have a concern with it, contact S&W.

I read your post and went to look at my SD. Mine looks exactly the same, even sitting on the same side! I've put about 500 rounds through it since I bought it about a month ago. It's shot great and I wouldn't have even noticed the way the slide sits to one side if I hadn't seen your post. I'll be curious to see if anyone else has the same issue (or maybe non-issue).

That was an adventure in field stripping!

Finger slipped and got a nip, haha. Regardless I stripped it down, put it back together carefully but it's still sitting crooked. I'm gonna see if I can fire off a few rounds ASAP, if it doesn't feel right I'll contact S&W.

Could just be how it sits, or I was thinking how it sits on the case (Mine points barrel to the left) so as an experiment, i'll flip it and see what happens.

Interesting thing.

Took a look at mine [scary to look at the business end, even when clearly unloaded] and it's perfectly centered.

Then I pushed the slide sideways and it can move from one side to the other, just as in the picture, but it naturally returns to center.

Not sure what that means but in any case, the front sight stays aligned with the barrel.

Nothing to worry about, and won't affect accuracy. The accuracy is determined by the barrel, and slide. The plastic frame just warped a little. Polymer is not precise.

I noticed mine was crooked to last year...I warmed up the rail area with a hot air gun and re-set the rail to make it even...it has stayed put ever since. The polymer is kinda on the soft side. I fixed it just for looks!

my suggestion is that you should not worry about that.... my SD9 looks just like that, has a small left to right movement of the slide at the front of the frame .... 2600+ rounds fired and ZERO malfunction!!!

well she malfunctioned once - broken firing pin at around 2500 rounds fired right at the nose of the pin..... still unsure why or how the firing pin broke after so few rounds..... got a replacement and flawless for just about 100+ rounds s far...

Honestly this is 100% normal and how the gun comes shipped I haven't even shot mine yet bought it a few days ago and mine is exactly likes yours as well. Slide works flawlessly and no issues

And also if u look at other pics online like this one its the same way of course that is a different angle but if u look close u can tell its further to the left just like mine and yours

On 3-5-13 I started a thread asking the same question. Was relieved when I saw the SD9VE promo pic on their website. Shows the same posture. These are great guns!

Basically what he said. It has an effect on accuracy but so so minimal that in this gun it's not going to be noticed

All 3 of mine (SD9VE, SW9VE, SW40VE) are perfect.
