Just one of those old age days

...those old guns sure can keep a person entertained...I hadn't field stripped my 1911 in a while...did it a dozen times today...just because I was having fun...sometimes I open and close a double barrel shotgun...just to hear that satisfying sound when it snaps shut tight...

The last couple weeks, 4 weeks I have been having a hard time, lots PTSD.now some depression. There is no joy, I am pushing myself to stay busy. This winter is closed in on me. Cabin fever. Been reloading. Getting old socks especially carry a load of carp from 50 years ago.

You say your getting some old socks to carry fish that died 50 years ago.

I get your feeling, sometimes I feel a little like that myself. But then I go to a gun auction and buy something that I have to learn to tear down and clean up, then maybe develop a few handloads for and take out and shoot. Just picked up a Baby Browning Sat. and had to look up a you tube video to learn how to field strip. Pretty easy, and it was probably unfired. I cut out a pocket holster pattern in some scrap leather, now take to the shoe repair shop to be stitched up. I can usually find something to piddle around with in my workshop.

Trying to explain to those who have no interest in guns just what the attraction for having them is;.... near impossible.

Aside from the obvious, "it was granpa's" or I love to shoot,/ tinker with, trade around, or challenges to cook up accurate reloads, sometimes the very simple truth of, "having it", is all that is required.

The truth of that for me hit home two weeks back when looking at a Ruger 10-22 target, heavy .920 barrel in S S.
I commented to the clerk, a young lad toting some kinda plastic do-hicky of a gun, that I didn't know quite why I wanted the Ruger, as I had one just like it in blue from nearly 10 years ago that I hadn't shot yet.
He stated in an all knowing manner, (as youth will do), that if I hadn't shot it by now, I probably never would.
In actuality, he probably couldn't tote the lead I've shot down range, but I let his comment slide.

The fact is, as I thought about why I wanted the thing, simple enough, I like knowing I HAVE IT.

Getting old for me is a bitter pill. The ONLY thing I really miss is being able to do little things I used to not even think about. Get on top of the roof, pick up a bag of feed for the fish or animals. Things that before were just "natural". I know what will make me feel better....I'm going outside to SHOOT!

I guess sometimes old age has its advantages .
Yesterday becoming foggy.
Never thought this thread would go this far, its kept me busy.
Usually I'm busy in the winter with constant snow shoveling , blowing snow and repairing snow removal equipment .
The last two winters I don't think I've had the tractor out three times and hardly no shoveling . Its been just bad enough so you can't do stuff outside and I'm anxious to be out.
Even the last couple summers the grass hasn't grown much
(burned up) . I was thinking about getting a part time job to occupy myself , nah that ain't gonna happen.

cabin fever?
did new york miss this insanely warm winter, carp?
it's been warm enow here to mess around outside lots.
i've been outside with the legal minimum of clothes when we usually have blizzards.
