And go to the range! :D I got a case of eyes disease today. Eyes just couldn't see myself staying at work all day today!!! It was time to dirty up a couple of 629s and get back home for a couple of cold ones. I took my 6 1/2" PowerPort & 7" Master Hunter (both dash 4s) and chunked some lead down range. What a great way to unwind.

Some poor soul in the lane next to me was wearing this target out at 5 yards with his bottom feeder. I'm breaking in his house tonight. No worries about getting shot! Bless his heart!

I hope everyone else had a Good Friday and Happy Easter weekend.

Good for you!!! I am retired, and met a friend at the range yesterday. Got to shoot 2 new to me S&W's. It went well, and was fun. Bob

Nice shooting. Love that Hunter! I didn't get to the range today, but I did manage to load another couple hundred rounds of .44.

Looks like you had a great time at the range! I couldn't get out there today, had to change a leaking T&P valve on the hot water heater. :( What a sweet thing to come home from the rig to find. Hopefully I will be able to get out there tomorrow.

Just remember to save the cold ones for AFTER the range! As to not going to work, the best job in the world is where you clock in at 9 AM and punch out at 8:55 AM. Still looking for that one, but I can improvise!

GREAT post. I know you're having a great Good Friday so I wish you and yours a Happy Easter. Nice shoot'n

Good for you, I did the same thing yesterday. Told the wife I needed to go blow off a little steam.

Good shooting. But you got those beautiful sight mounts dirty!!

My wife and I shot an off-hand pistol match today. She came in second one point behind first. My targets were good save for one flyer that landed me in fourth.

Didn't have any work today so I packed up my M&P Shield and went to the Range this morning. Shooting my Shield seems more like practice , should taken my 5906 and Mod 65 . That's some good lead chunkin' with your 629's

Phillip, those beautiful sight mounts will clean right up! :D Already spit shined them a few times!!

9.3 grains of HS-6 behind a MBC 240 grain powder coated SWC? That's a great shoot all day load for a 44 mag! I round off to an even 9 grains and my 4" 629 loves them.
If you have problems finding HS-6 like I have, CFE-P works great too.

That is some very good offhand shooting.

I love HS-6 in lead handloads. I use it in my Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter (7-12" barrel).

That 9.3gr load may be going slower than you think.

My chrono testing follows, all out of my SBHH, Missouri bullet 240g TCFP, non-coated. Winchester LPP.

10g HS-6, 947fps, SD 16 fps, ES 40
10.5g HS-6 1000fps, SD 15 fps, ES 44
11.5g HS-6. 1125fps, SD 12 fps, ES 46

All of these loads produced 1.5" 12-shot groups at 25yds, rested. All loads are very easy shooting, I can shoot several hours at a time. You can tell by the numbers that the loads are very consistent. NO leading at all.

Anything under 10gr would give me sooty cases.

For whatever reason, my SBHH has accuracy "nodes" at ~1000fps, and again at ~1125fps. I aim for those numbers with whichever powder I'm using.

I've actually been using CFE-P for awhile now and ran across a pound of the HS-6 and thought I'd do a little experimenting. Besides the powdercoated rounds I was shooting non coated Keith style Xtreme 240 gr bullets. I got my load data from the Speer 14 book. It is indeed an all day shooting load.

I've got a pound of HS-6 squirreled away, but I don't know what for having pounds of CFE-P on hand!
I've had really good results with Xtreme's 240gr. plated RNFP. Try them if you feel like playing with another bullet. Wish they did a plated SWC like they do for 158gr. .357".

I'll have to try those.

My BIL had this can of Win 530 (same as HS-6) sitting in his reloading room since it was new and asked if I wanted to try it out. It wasn't til then I did a little research and found out how similar it is to CFE-P. It burns a little cleaner than CFE-P but for the price I'll be sticking with the CFE-P.
