I've always loved revolvers, but never actually owned anything more than an old Taurus M85 and a couple in the Ruger LCR line. I've mostly had polymer wonders or micro 1911's for carry. Today, I went to the gun store to explore about 10 revolvers I'd been considering for quite some time. When I picked up one in particular, it was quite obviously the one for me. I'm the happy new owner of a Performance Center 686 snubby. I took it to the GS range right after purchase, and put some 38 special, 38 +P, and 357 mag through her, including some hot personal defense ammo. What a sweet shooter!

Excellent! The 686 in all its configurations is a big favorite in these parts.

Sidebar - I personally don't believe in "hot personal defense ammo" if what you are referring to is stout .357 Magnum loads. I use a 686+ for home defense and it only has .38 Specials in it, maybe a +P, maybe, but that's it. All high quality defensive loads but not at the "hot" end of the spectrum.

Such a great little revolver to start with. You done good but don't forget the range report.

The beauty of that 686 is its flexibility. For casual fun shooting with 38 wadcutters, practice and training with SWCs and serious work with 357s you have it all covered with a gun that will handle them all without a hiccup. I use smaller revolvers for my EDC, but If I were using proper leather and was dressed appropriately to conceal it, I wouldn't mind carrying that 686 myself. Good find!

Congrats, I love my 686-4, 4". Might be tempted to get another...... Sweet looking gun you got there.

Congratulations on your choice. Enjoy. :)

Santa left one under the tree a couple of years ago, and its great. The recoil on magnums, 158gr and heavier was not fun for me with those wood grips. I put Hogue Bantam grips on it, and it's much better recoil absorption now.

Sweet gun! The 686P in 4" barrel is by far my favorite gun. I'm not a big fan of anything less than 4" barrel for shooting 357 as there is just too much velocity loss but that would be one sweet gun for self defense with 38 +p rounds. Nice revolver!
