it has been a long time since I have been to Kansas but I sure don't remember all of the mountains and deserts that you see Dillon chasing after bad guys. there has been episodes where he is chasing bad guys in Mexico and Utah. they surely had marshals a lot closer to Utah and Mexico than to use a marshal from Dodge City? one of the episodes on now he is on some river up in Oregon. I don't ride horses but if I knew I had to ride a horse that far they can have the badge.

well i'm from kansas and colorado is just a stones throw from Dodge City. He could travel far because he had Festus to watch things while he was gone! Festus couldn't go along cause he rode a mule and couldn't keep up

Check out Rawhide as well. I wasn't aware that Nueces County had large hills and that it's Court House was located near a large flowing river like was shown in more than one episode.
