Keep in mind that I'm speaking from a 50 state perspective. Florida's a single state. Why is what Florida did any more threatening to the entire nations gun owners than what Connecticut recently did...or Maryland...or what CA and NY seem to do on a regular basis? Not to get off on a long discussion, but AFAIK the Florida thing is not written in stone and there will be the legal challenges by both organizations and individuals.

I do not know what other States law on age for rifles is? Do any of them require a person to be 21 to by a rifle and wait 3 days? (any rifle) As to other States, yes the have magazine capacities and stupid Assault rifle things like thumbhole stocks or flash hiders
But an 18 year old can buy a shotgun or hunting rifle. yes??

The Federal Law is 18 can buy a rifle.

Yes the bill is Law now. Unless it is over turned which of course is much harder to do than just passing one in a hurry,

Florida is/was the Gunshine State very lenient, It will now become a example or precedent.

18 year olds are responsible enough to vote and go in the Military but can't drink, smoke or buy a rifle.:rolleyes:

Seems to be a mixed bag. Some kids seem to understand it is not the guns -- but the media will NOT use them for their agenda. You may only see those commenting in opposition to guns in videos and the NEWS.

As stated -- we need to stay alert and watch out for those wanting to sneak in limitations.

The irony of the anti's. They don't trust 18, 19 or 20 year olds (anyone actually) to be mature enough to buy/possess guns; however, they believe (or say they believe) that we have to listen to these same aged and younger people and let them set policy for everyone.
If you're not stable enough to carry a gun, you're not stable enough to set gun policy.

...
We should be praying for the families of the victims and finally protect our schools, churches and everywhere people gather. Not punish the law abiding public with law that will make us less safe.
...
That reminds me of this quotation:
"To ban guns because criminals use them is to tell the law abiding that their rights depend not on their own conduct, but on the conduct of the guilty and the lawless." - Lysander Spooner

As a recent Floridian, I was told " We like our guns here ". Now the gov. does this. I hate to think about moving again, but if they keep this up.....I will be out of here. Immature inmates taking over the asylum. Anti 2nd amendment adults using kids to get what they want. Shame on them! I don't blame the kids, I blame the parents and the dem-whitts.

No point in trying to place blame solely on Rick Scott. He's just a cog in the wheel.

Florida's legislature passed this bill. Members of the legislature are elected by the voters. If you're going to blame someone, you have to spread it around.

The bill would have become law in fifteen days even if the governor hadn't signed it. If he'd vetoed it, chances are strong the legislature would've overridden his veto.

Speaking frankly, I think most of us who keep up with things know why Rick Scott sort of pushed for this bill, and we know why he signed it into law. His signature links him to it forever now. But there's not really any point in going into that here.

I have mixed feelings on this and doing the same-ole-same-ole has gotten a lot of young people and older people killed (how many mass shootings do you remember as a kid?)

Increased security, lockable doors, metal detectors, safe rooms, mental health facilities need to be drastically expanded and help out there......

not trying to be a pain, but exactly how many shootings have any of you been involved in. I was LE for 20 yrs in the army and wasn't shot at, let alone if I was teaching night classes, it would have been pretty terrifying to have someone walking the halls with a 30-06 looking for victims...

I don't recall any "Children's Crusade" against drugs. Every day 12 teens die from texting while driving. Where's the outrage over that ?

Can't speak to the texting, but most of the same group that demand gun bans also want drug laws lessened or abolished.

It is also ironic that the Second Amendment is the only one that the "progressives" want restricted. As for all the other rights they want them expanded.

Well, hopefully the kids are so busy setting firearms policy, they won't have much time now to post videos on social media as they eat soap pods. Those soap pods can't be good for children;)

On a more serious note, just an observation. When we did active shooter training in schools, and when we actually responded to reports of persons with guns on campuses, we ran into an interesting situation. The local fire marshal dictated which doors were allowed to be locked/unlocked,etc. Now how many school fire fatalities have occurred, since columbine say, as compared to the carnage active shooters have created? I don't know how widespread this might be, but perhaps policies like this have changed from a few years ago?
