Here's a pic of mine to view while you are waiting on yours. Steel rabbit shot at 140 yards with PPU soft point ammo, prone position:

I have had mine for about a year now, and like it a lot. Lightweight, handy and hard hitting. Love the Garand style action.

I tested a good variety of ammo with my Mini 30, and found PPU soft point to be head and shoulders above the others in accuracy.

Also, cheap steel case ammo (like Tula) will give a failure to fire about once in 20 rounds. Apparently the rifle was designed around the softer primers found in U.S manufactured 7.62 X 39. 100% reliable with brass case commercial ammo....

My experience echoes the comments above. The rifle shoots as well as I can see the sights at 100 yds. Internet rumor has it that the after market extended plastic magazines are not reliable. The OEM steel mags have worked for me with zero, and I mean zero, failures. Good experience also with the PPU softpoints. However, I loaded up a gazillion Hornady ballistic tips (124 g.) that shoot possibly a bit better and put them in ammo cans for "later." Don't need no AR shooting those itty bitty bullets. :) Zombies are tough critturs.

To add to the rumors, Pmags in my Mini-30 fell out in use, didn't fit the magwell correctly, and didn't feed well. And my inquiry to them wen unanswered. Factory mags have worked just fine.

I found that fiocci ammo for the mini 30 works well.

Just a little pricey.

[...] What's it do that an AK doesn't?
Mainly a standard aperture sight and easy scope mounting. Also, while a buck with any self respect would not want to be seen in the same county as an AK, excepting the few Mini 30s that have been tortured like JohnRippert's, he might be tempted to sneak in close for good look at a Ruger.

That's nice thanks for sharing.

I traded for one a few years back which has a green hi-viz front sight. It is the only rifle I can shoot with open sights. It sees use as my walking hog gun.

Hello, I like mine, I put a picitiny ranch rail on mine (backwards) and a red dot so it's a scout rifle. Works well.
Semper paratus

what word did you use :D

Maybe he's funnin' with us 'cause he used that five-letter word that begins with "G" on this Forum. ;)

Enjoy that fine Mini 30, OP! I opted to go with a Mini 14 Tactical a few months ago on a whim, and I've enjoyed the heck out of it as just an iron-sights plinker in 300 AAC Blackout. Puts a smile on my face when I can hit at 100 yards with it using these old eyes. Not every time, mind you! :D
