A week ago today I covered the holster, inside and out, with
baking soda, sealed it in a zip lock bag, and left it out in my
shed. I just went out, took it out of the bag, brushed off all
of the baking soda, and sniffed it. It might be my imagination,
but I don't think it stinks as bad as it did.

I hung it up outside where it can get some fresh air and sunshine.
I will leave it there for a few days and check it periodically.

Meanwhile, ebay sent me an email asking how I like my holster.
I told them!

To be continued.

You'll discover as I did with my 'fresh ground coffee' holster, that it's the 'open air' treatment part that's going to take the smell out, not the backing soda :-).

I sure hope so. I've had a lot of holsters over the years, but
never one that stunk as bad as this one. I would sure hate
to have the previous owner's lungs. Is stunk a word? Stink,
stank, & stunk?

I'm tellin' ya, I had a stinky holster that I just threw outside with some other junk. After about 6 months I noticed it sitting out there and gave it look. Stunk as bad as it did when it showed up. Next step was to the dump.;)

Some smells are real stubborn! If the Baking Soda doesn't do the trick, I'd look at returning it for a refund.

A few years ago I had a USGI .30 cal. Ammo Can from the 1960's that stunk so bad I could not keep it in the house. I know that most of them have a slight musty odor from the ammo boxes breaking down, but is not that bad. I took all the ammo out and purchased new white 50 rnd. boxes for it at MidwayUSA as the original cardboard boxes stunk really bad too! I scrubbed the can with Simple Green, Clorox, Dawn, filled it with Baking Soda, let it bake in the sun for a week. After all was said and done it did not smell any better than it did when I started.

I was gonna toss it and one of my friends asked me to give it to him which I did along with a warning. He tried many ideas he had (including clear coating it to "seal odor in" and none worked either - finally he tossed it!

Bottom line here is some smells are just permanent I guess.......
