A Different Take On Fast Food

"Stopped for a bite on the road in France, and had to negotiate a new system of service at McDonald's"

So while in France you get to taste the fine French Cuisine at Macs Steak House?

Is there a 1/4 lb burger on a Croissant??:D

McDonalds is the classic story of what MOST of Americans want. A mediocre product at a very low price.

Mickey D's is not inexpensive. We can feed the whole family at our local hot dog stand for 1/3 less than the equivalent at McD.

Bad food, high prices,no service- What's not to like.

Yeah, it may seem a bit odd, but the circumstance may not be what you imagine. Finding an establishment along the road here that will sell you a large coffee to-go is a rare occurrence. Also, large swaths of the country we have been driving through are sparsely populated, with most towns devoid of any dining options.

I eat at McDonald’s 5-6 times a year. And I like it.
I suspect that lot of places use recycled paper products, and don’t mention it.

I'm not a huge fan of McD's, but there are a couple of things I like. The sausage McGriddle is two small pancakes with a sausage patty in between, and I really like those. You can get them with egg and cheese if you want, but I skip that. And I like their hash browns. It's really just a big, flat tater tot, and who doesn't like tater tots?

My wife wanted a Big Mac, fries, and shake just last night, and I went to get it for her. I sipped on the shake (chocolate) on the way home, and it was pretty good.

I consider their food, for the most part, to be consistent mediocrity. Above Taco Bell or Jack in the Box, but well below Five Guys.

And you can skip all the kiosk nonsense inside by using the drive-thru.

I don’t consider McDonalds cheap. A Big Mac meal running around $9 IIRC. Not high quality but not cheap.
Years ago my parents, sister and her kids were head north from Pittsburgh to Pymatuning Lake up Rte. 19. There used to be an old time diner in Mercer, The Mercer Diner. Dad decided to stop and feed the gang. My nephew wanted a hamburger but when he got it he only nibbled on it.
On the way out when they were done, my nephew said to my Dad, “Maybe we can stop at MacDonalds and get a REAL hamburger”. Dad about slugged him.

I quit eating at "fast food" places years ago. "Slow Slop" is more accurate. Served by surly people to boot.

I used to break down and eat at Taco Bell on trips across the state to visit family. Then I got the bright idea to pack an apple, a banana, a slice of cheese between two pieces of bread, a couple of snack bars and bottled water. Much healthier and much, much cheaper. :D

One local McD’s has to be the worst. Painfully slow, rude. I walk up to the counter and the girl just stares at me. No “Hello” or “Can I help you” or even “What do you want?” Just a defiant stare.
While waiting for my “food” I counted 1 register open at the counter 1 at the drive through and 9 other employees cooking, doing whatever, or just BS’ing. Don’t know how they turn a profit.

Some twelve years ago I was riding from Mumbai India to Nashik to install some equipment that we sold in a steel mill. The driver stopped at a McDonalds on the way. One item on the menu was "McCurry". No, I just had a Pepsi and we went on our way.

The one in Wenatchee is pulling a 50% record on getting orders correct on the drive through. I've been keeping track! Order a Big Mac and another sandwich and get two Big Macs (Last week). Complain locally and all they say is "Bring your order in and we'll replace it!" How is it "FAST" food if I have to go twice?

Good side-- in a smaller town with few choices, we have found out some "hidden gems"--also, I am out of my wheelchair and can cook again!

They have the kiosks in some of them here. I used one once -- it was very counter-intuitive -- I had to clear the order and start over twice. On the rare occasions I go there I'll stick with the humanoid. On the other hand, I kind of like the order screen at QT. It gives the "cook" a step-by-step set of instructions as to how to prep each item. So when I order swiss instead of cheddar on my BLT croissant they always get it right.

I prefer B King for a fast burger due to taste, flavor and size of the bun.

However the last two have been luke warm or almost cold.....
and the last one, I went inside to get a hot one but it must have been
sitting on the shelf for an hour ??

No more BK for me.
Stopped at a Dairy Queen for my last burger and it was almost too hot to eat!!

They also serve a free mini Vanilla "Doggie cup" if pooch is riding with you,
which is a slick summer treat, if you do that sort of thing.

There is no flipping burgers at McD's. The grills have a power lid that lowers to the right height for which patty is being cooked. The grill surface is marked so the kids know where to spot the patty. Every cooking chore in a McD's is computer or electronically controlled so there are few chances of error. The taste is probably the same Nationwide because all the buns, meat, and fish, and all the sauces are made to McD's exacting standards. Five Guys here are a joke, just mostly greasy garbage. BK was discussed earlier, and I concur. We have Fat Burger here and they are horrible. Can never get one cooked medium or less. Always gray all the way. Wendy's is acceptable as long as I have a frosty with it. Smashburger it the best around here. Really like the mushroom swiss. In My neck of the woods I mostly go to Benders Brat Haus. Absoultly great.
