I was a cereal killer in the 1970’s......

"The Roman legions conquered the world on a mix of four grains - rice, corn, wheat and oats. Now you can have the same four grains for breakfast. Team Flakes."

It was a very good cereal, so of course they discontinued it. A few years ago I started thinking about it, and wondered where those Roman legions got corn.

I was a big fan of Life. Captain Crunch left a scum on my teeth. Not a fan.

Don't remember that brand, the ad is interesting... You're quite correct that the Romans wouldn't have had corn as we know it. I wonder if the ad writer (and the people who made the cereal) were just confused about history.... It was common useage in Europe to refer to a variety of grains as "corn" long before the American variety appeared (and when it did it used the name "Maize").

I also liked Life cereal, still buy it now and then. Main thing I remember about Captain Crunch was you had to eat it fast or it turned into a mush (and it would sure stick to your teeth!). Didn't eat much of the sugar heavy cereals, probably a good thing as I still have good teeth!

I still eat a lot of it. I bicycle to work, carbohydrates are the bicyclist's friend. Cheapskate that I am, I find store brands/off brands just as satisfying.

I've found some store brands that look & taste just like the real deal. Watching the "How It's Made" shows I'm convinced the only difference in some is the box they put it in.

We didn't get boxed cereal as kids. Don't know why. Breakfast was cream of wheat, oatmeal, (actually, I guess they did come in boxes, but the Momma had to cook it), toast and very occasionally an egg, bacon, spam or scrapple.
Now I have a mixture of Cheerios and Cinnamon Toast Crunch about midnight almost every night.

Cant get enough of Super Sugar Krisp Sugar Krisp or so said the Sugar Bear . Also liked King Vitamin and Grins and Smiles and Giggles and Laughs .
