UPDATE: Virginia has fallen

yet another state where those gun owners, who would respond to posts about difficulties of california and new york gun laws with, "I'm glad I live in a free state", falls. Washington, oregon, New Mexico, and even florida, have already had gun laws passed that gun owners in those states would not have thought could happen. New hampshire and Vermont are currently going through the process. With changing demographics, in georgia, north carolina, nevada, and even texas i wouldnt be feeling to comfortable either.

That “free state” balloon has had some of the air removed. Be careful it doesn’t crash on your head.

stansdds, one of the reason so many dems went uncontested is simply demographics. Some of the areas, like Portsmouth, Richmond, Norfolk, parts of Newport News, etc will never get a republican elected. When 90% of the electorate votes democrat running against them is simply a waste of time and money. Redistricting only made the problem worse.

I did my part and so did everyone I know but there was BIG money from left wing resources pouring into this state that swung this election. I look for ammo supplies to begin drying up very soon, then “common sense gun control” will be next. Wish we could leave but family ties are too strong here.
You're very right. Can't say much more or I'll get a wrist slap from our moderators.
My roots here are 12 to 14 generations deep, depending on which family line, so moving would break my heart.
Then again, having one of my sign-toting, gun-hating, come-here new neighbors red flag me would hurt too. For now I say nothing to the come-heres beyond "good morning" and such small talk. It would be self destructive to say anything about shooting, or even defending the 2nd Amendment.

Similar thing nearly happened here in Florida back in 2018. The House/Senate elections are always relatively safe due to our rural areas.

The Governors race however.....was closer than I would have liked. Until the panhandled voting ended I was pretty sure Florida was going to elect the wrong person.

People move here because of the weather, no income tax and decent gun laws (we could be better) but way to many fruit loops from other states keep voting for their garbage.

Does Virginia have the RKBA in its state constitution ?
From the Virginia Constitution:
Article I. Bill of Rights
Section 13. Militia; standing armies; military subordinate to civil power

That a well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe defense of a free state, therefore, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; that standing armies, in time of peace, should be avoided as dangerous to liberty; and that in all cases the military should be under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power.

Unfortunately, "infringed" gets whittled away over the years by bootstrapping anti-gunners, and our current governor can't wait to have his whack at it.
I hope he overreaches and gets smacked down by a court, but that usually takes a long time and a lot of money.
For now, I'll lay low and watch what unfolds.

Remember the movie Platoon?
When the HQ responds to a fallback request.
“ Where you going to fall back to?”
That’s where we’re at folks.

And the newly elected general assembly will be the one redrawing the maps in 2021. We will be permanent blue.

Virginia license plates now can have a new motto: “The Deep State”
I think we will just change our name to South New York.

More like "Washington DC County"; thousands of people are now commuting to DC from Fredericksburg, Virginia, which used to be a nice small town all by itself, surrounded by woods and farm country. Now the two metropolitan areas are blended without a break, and we often find commuter traffic jams on I-95 running most of the 50 miles between them.

the NRA tying itself into social issues was and is a big mistake. They should have kept the focus only on firearm and 2nd amendment issues. Enemies are coming from all directions now and many for reasons having nothing to do with guns.

If we want to keep our guns, we need to get some of those blue folks to the range.

Bingo. Make friends, conduct yourself beyond reproach in all areas of your life, and then don't hide who you are. It's a lot harder to disenfranchise someone with a face.

Double-bingo. The NRA is playing too hard to the country music and NASCAR set. That's not just counter-productive, it's contrary to our roots.

I haven't seen any stats about just how many registered democrats vs republicans there are here in Va but the latest election stats showed that anywhere from 200k to 300k more democrats than republicans voted in this last election.
