Kenny, that's beautiful country.
When I lived in Flagstaff I traveled all over the area and saw some amazing stuff.
For a couple of years I worked at Sunset Crater/Wupatki Natl. Monument. Lots of petroglyphs and rock art there. Being an employee, I got o go places that were closed to the public. Way out in the hinterlands. On one expedition we found the remains of an old revolver. Just a rusted frame. You wonder what happened to the owner. Rancher? Prospecter? Pioneer? Or maybe dropped by an Indian in his travels?
After being out there for a while, you get where you can see man made hunting blinds on small ridges or hills, always a prime source for arrowheads. I would occasionally come across pahoes out in the weirdest places. Those I wouldn't touch.
Heck, once I blasted a hole in Grand Canyon NP for a fuel tank. As we were loading the rubble, I spotted a perfect 4" dinosaur footprint!
Of course the park super was on hand to keep an eye on everything, so I took it over to him and asked him what he wanted to do with it.
He just said "do you want it? Get it out of here before someone sees it and shuts the job down!"
The desert SW is by far my favorite part of this country. Pretty strange for boy brought up on the New England coast!
