Tyler T Grips - What Do You Know?

They have a name a product and an audience but a hard time filling orders. It's too bad these people couldn't sell candy across the street from an elementary school.

I placed an order in January, still haven't received anything. Two months of attempting contact finally resulted in an offer of a refund, and a plea for patience a bit over a month ago. I chose patience (probably the wrong choice), and am still waiting.

I discovered all the threads on them after my initial order, and later ordered a pair from BK Grips. Here's one on my M27:

The service from BK Grips was excellent, and they shipped out the same day as ordered. Unfortunately, they don't offer one in aluminum, and honestly, they don't fit quite as well as the original Tylers, even on the K frame. Who knows, the new Tylers may not either... someday I might be able to compare them.

I'm still hunting originals on the 'net and at gun shows. Most gun shop employees don't even know what they are anymore...

Here are a few grip adapters. Not all Tyler, some Mershon, some Pachmyer, a S&W and I might be forgetting someone.

Beautiful pics all! I used T grips (originals) long ago...great grips. BK grips are super also...I use one on my S&W Airweight.

I've had nothing but bad experiences ordering from the company. Made two tries to get the right grips for my snubby 66-3. They sent me adapters that were simply poorly fitting with noticable gaps, instead of a tight fit to the trigger guard. After I sent the second adapter back with a note about the fit, expecting to receive a proper fitting pair, I never heard from them again. Left voice messages...nada. They rippede me off.

I was lucky enough to find older adapters online from private parties fo my 66 and my J-frame 63 that fit perfectly.

While instant gratification is swell, Tylers apparently operates by accumulating orders and when sufficient adapters are ordered they make a production run. These little pieces are cast and finished by hand(?) so it takes time. I am under the impression this is not their primary source of income. Patience pays off. Or, purchase on the auction sights. Lots of ways to get them.

When we 'communicated' (via text - he never answers the phone and the VM box is always full) in early May, he said he had over 400 orders he was trying to work through. I don't think waiting to accumulate orders is the issue.

I do agree that it's a side business, but it sounds like it deserves a few more resources...

The one I got may have been cast by hand, but it was finished poorly. Had one copper tab, like the originals, no "Tyler-T" like the original. As I said earlier, it took MONTHS to fulfill my order, there is no question of instant gratification for a what I consider inferior product compared to the original. I agree it's not their primary source of income, but their approach is not user friendly and I believe they're depending on the Originals w/out Original quality. BK grips have two copper tabs and while not as nice as original T-grips, are superior to what Tyler is putting out now, IMO.

Perhaps he should explain how he operates and what delivery times to expect on his website.

I buy them when I come across them in the wild, but I'm not going to write a check and lick a stamp like its 1983, especially if the business has a track record of cashing checks immediately and taking months (if you're lucky) to deliver the goods. No thanks.

If I need some I get black BKs. The price is right, the delivery is fast, and I like the 2 clip design better.

This Model 19 came with a shiny TTG attached, but if it hadn't I would have used a black BK and been just as happy.

I got mine from Robertson's trading post on gunbroker. Paid about $4 more per grip than buying direct, but got them fairly quick. Robertson's now has a disclaimer that they are no longer affiliated with Tyler t grip.

I currently have one that came on a 66-1. I still think they are a half-assed solution to poor fitting grips - cool for old school looking rig. It seems they're from an era when there were fewer choices in grips. Just my opinion...
