S&W model 10-5 grip notched

Recently picked up a 10-5 2” barrel made mid to late 60’s. Very nice condition conservative 95%. I noticed three notches cut in lower left hand grip just below checkering. I would love to know the story!

Those are simply over-run from the checkering tool, Notice how they are perfectly aligned with three of the grooves in the field. Nothing suspicious, or interesting.
 
It almost looks like machine checkering overrun, before the border was cut.

It would be nice to think that it was used to end the careers of 3 hardened criminals! ;)

This one is D 323xxx, maybe close. These grips were a local Dominican's attempt to make grips, a story in itself I'm sure. They are better function than appearance. I put the #'d magnas back on so no nitro pills necessary. Joe
