Cracked the Frame on my 4006TSW CHP (Final Update)

It means they want to get 900-bucks for it. I love overpriced guns with dubious and unsubstantiated gravitas. Ask them for the details or if there's paperwork and watch the bravado just melt.

We have a local trade site here in GA where folks trade firearms and other outdoor stuff. There is this one seller that always leads with "rare" or "hard to find" on about everything he sells. Seen someone else that list an Ar-15 as "pre-ban". They look like a bunch of salesmen trying to justify their high price. I generally steer clear of those folks.

I call B.S, all 4006 TSWs were issued and shot. I rather buy 2 than pay 900

I have the same attitude. Back when FN-FAL kits came into the country with barrels, cost 150-bucks, and Imbel receivers cost 75-bucks, I could build four fully functioning FAL's for less than the cost of one Springfield semi-auto M14. I have a fairly comprehensive collection of FALs as a result. :D

Given current conditions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, I would expect much longer wait times to get responses from and repairs executed by S&W. I doubt they are immune to the things that are affecting most other businesses.

Well no cracked frame here... rifling looks a little dull but that could just be me... can the barrel be replaced with any ol TSW barrel?

wow

I appreciate everyone’s kind words! I’m already bidding on a new replacement. Here is a better pic of the extent on the damage.

Holly smokes! I purchased one for a retirement gift from being a law enforcement officer last year.

I haven't shot it yet for some reason but plan on just using normal .40 S&W ammo. I have never seen a production gun crack like that...wow!

Glad you're okay and you can find another one. My research shows they only made 9700 of these and I would imagine that is going to dry us pretty soon.

Looks ok to me. Unless you have noticed diminished accuracy, I'd continue to use the original barrel.

Years ago my 669 cracked almost the same spot. Only shot factory 115, Less then 500 rounds and it cracked. Sent back to S&W. They replaced the frame - I then traded it to my local dealer for a Sig P220 American when they first came out.

That's not even super hot ammo in my experience. Unlucky!

Could it be the recoil spring was worn out? Man, I love my 40-series guns and it would break my heart if that happened to me. That's why I try and buy spare springs every chance I get!
Sorry, OP. That's a bummer.:(

I was almost to the point it was too heavy honestly. With a mix of that lot of ammo, maybe the pistol beat itself to death. From the 6 other 40xx pistols I have had it always had a what felt like stiff spring. The spring was a extra power wolff spring for those wondering.

Wanna buy a couple of factory P220 9mm magazines for less than they go for elsewhere online?
