Ovaltine??

Does anyone know why Ovaltine prices went through the roof?
It used to be $5 plus change for an 18 oz can to astronomical.
I just saw a 12 oz jar for $20+ on Amazon.
I'm sure glad I've already sent for my Capt. Midnight Secret Decoder Ring.

My granddaughter isn't as fond of it as I am.

When I was a kid, we had Ovaltine in the house all the time. My Mother always had some in her house and drank it until she passed. I learned that Hersey's was better and never looked back!

Spelling counts.

From Wiki: "Ovomaltine was exported to Britain in 1909. A misspelling of the name on the trademark registration application led to the name being shortened to Ovaltine in English-speaking markets."

Yup, Strawberry Quick. Had it quite often when I was a kid. Never tried Ovaltine. It was either Strawberry Quick, Chocolate Quick, or Hershey's syrup. Nowadays, if I want hot chocolate, it's Swiss Miss.

You can keep your Ovaltine and decoder ring, I was content with Nestle's Quick, chocolate and strawberry; I wasn't brave enough to try the banana. Now it's Herseys syrup.

As I recall, there were two varieties of Ovaltine: the original and a Swiss (if I remember correctly) which was even better. I think it's now referred to as "rich chocolate " and sold in a blue container.

It's still yummy.

Just the fact that it's nearly worthless as a cleaner when compared to most other similar products and only survives on nostalgia, like Ovaltine.

We used to have Ovaltine when I was a kid. It was OK, but I always preferred Nestle's Quik. Still do, and still drink it to this very day.
