I’ve never liked the available optic mount solutions for the S&W R8 revolver. They sit way too high on the rail or you lose the rear sight. I don’t have the skills to mill for an RMR so I went another route. The easiest mounting surface to mill is for the Aimpoint ACRO and Holosun HE509T. The ACRO sits way lower.

Took it to the range to test it out. It’s so much faster and way more accurate. I could hit the plate rack out at 50 yards. :D I’m loving this. Wish I had done this when I first got my R8.

Excellent upgrade excellently done.

Thanks! I’m not a machinist so I’m happy it came out well. I may mill it a bit lower so I can see iron sights. They are just out of the window of the red dot.

Whose front and rear tritium sights are those? That is a great milling job.

Front is a Dawson Precision 050-726. They still produce but you have to call it in because it’s no longer showing online.

Rear is from Meprolight ML-22771-RS.

I don’t know about perfect but more like acceptable. :D I did it in a drill press. Don’t own a proper mill.

My luxury dry fire setup in the guest bedroom. :D Crazy how much faster and accurate it is with the red dot. Prepping for a Run N Gun Biathlon this Saturday.

I went to an Acro on one of my Glocks. I think it is a winner and I think you will be very happy.

I hate to say it but I had removed it from my other weapons due to the poor battery life. They failed miserably in that department. Could have been a game changer if it wasn’t for that. Instead Holosun 509 took that trophy.

My understanding is that the first ones released had some flaw that caused that; it has since been addressed after major league screams from the serious user population. Can't blame you for the decision tho9ugh. I did not get mine until after that had been addressed.

That “fix” only gives it one more week of battery life. Still pretty sad coming from the company that ridiculed all other optic companies for their battery life. They may get it right in the gen2 version, but for now they’re not a duty option.

Hmm. Not consistent with the feedback I am seeing from some pretty hard shooters.

Hard shooters I have talked to concur with my experience. Even one of their oficial factory shooters in Europe. One of their spokespersons concurred too when I took his class. I don’t want this to turn into a pissing contest. Just giving a heads up so people don’t waste their money and then regret it like it happened to me. Get the Holosun 509T that is also a closed emitter, but battery life lasts over a year, and has passed the Aaron Cowan 10,000 round torture.
