.22lr conversion kits

I always wanted a conversion kit, but ended up backing into the same result over time.

A good friend was going through a divorce and offered me his Series 70 Service Model ACE for $600. He got it from the original owner when HE got divorced. I jumped on it.

A couple of years later I mentioned this on a 1911 forum and a guy there offered me a complete Series 70 .45acp top end that he had overpolished on a DIY refinish and messed up some roll marks for $75. Jumped on that also. Everything fit perfectly, but I did have to replace the slide stop when he had overpolished that and messed up the angle where the magazine catches after the last round. New one cost $12 and it ran perfect The ACE pistols use a different slide stop marked with the number 2. Those are over $50 and hard to find.

I seldom shoot it with the .45 acp top end, other than to check function, but have it if needed and I do have other 1911s to shoot.

The SM ACE is just flat out fun to shoot!

I would list it for sale here before you're getting divorced....

Since this thread was started back in 2016 and my earlier remarks, I have since added a Sig factory .22 conversion for my P226. Works like a champ and loads of fun! :D

I bought an ATI 22LR conversion kit for 1911's. I used it with the lower from my Regent R100 and it worked great. IIRC I paid $160 for it at a gunshow, and it came with two magazines. I'd buy one in the same price range for any of my other guns if I could find one.

Have one of the factory built CZ Kadet complete guns (IIRC cost $450 new) and it has always run flawless but apparently they are now over $1k if u can find one.

Have a full sized M&P 22 that has run flawless as well .

Have two Colt 1911 ACE conversion kits, as others have stated their "Floating" chamber design gets dirty quick and needs to be cleaned after about 50 rds or it hiccups.
The advantage of the Ace is it uses a real steal upper so has a very similar feel to shooting the 1911 in 45 ACP where most of the other conversion kits use alloy.

I bought the whole pistol.

After45 years of marrage divorce is kinda unlikely, but she did tell me I can't sell any guns.

Went into the hospital for a very mild heart attack, no stent or cath, but a CAT scan found lung cancer and she wants a source of cash for when that particular movie ends. She is also aware that the SM ACE is a $2,000 +/- pistol. Especially with 5 OEM Colt mags.

I have the Ciener units for my Browning HP and M1911s, wish I could find one for my S&W M-639 and 659. Fired my Browning HP more with the Ciener than I ever did center fire, accurate when I do my part. Only drawback is they do not lock the slide back on the last shot.

I have two, an old Colt 1911 .22 kit that I bought piecemeal from numrich forever ago to practice ipsc as an easier way to build some skills without spending much and not having to do any .45 reloading. A brick of .22s were less than 10.00 back then. The other one is a sweet cmmg dedicated.22 upper that I picked up more recently. Did some painting on it to match the Seekins lower and it’s other 300blkout upper. Uses Black dog mags. Extremely accurate rig. As both centerfire and rimfire ammo has become hard to come by and pricey to boot having a second subcaliber alternative to your centerfire rifle or pistol is just an extra bonus....in case.

Wish I could locate one of these. I'd love to put it on one of my High Powers.

Highly unlikely, but if anyone has an extra Ciener 1911, .22 magazine, they want to sell, please PM me. Thanks! Bob

Got one for my 1911 Government model way back when they were reasonably priced. Use it regularly at the range these days as I've got an abundance of 22lr. A good training tool.

A cousin imported a Kadet conversion unit back when most people didn't even know what a CZ75 was. He had to do a little fitting to his early CZ75 but once that was done it fit and functioned fine. Years later I opted for the whole Kadet pistol. A dealer at a gun show was closing them out and selling them for $299. Knowing what I know now I should have bought them all.
