USFA 44 Special Questions

Another .44 Special USFA:

Signatures on the backstrap used to be a thing. I would not have it removed.

Only one of my Single Actions has a signature, it is my Bob Munden Special. The signature is gold filled

This revolver looks much more spectacular in person. I have just never taken a photograph to do it justice . . . . Nickel and fire blue, and it shoots great as well. I got this from Bob about a decade ago

CajunBass, I would have jumped on that had it been in my area. You got a great deal on a fine firearm

Beautiful gun. Those grips really set it off. I wouldn't give the engraving a second thought, especially with that serial number.

Mine, pictured below, is also a .44 spl., that came with a spare 44/40 cylinder from the factory. I only have about 200 rounds thru mine, all .44 spl. 200 grain SWC's at 850 fps hit right to POA at 25 yards, and shoot about an inch if I can do my job. Paid eight hundred and change in 2006 new.

Besides the engraving and special ser. no., the grips and hammer (case colored) on your gun were options from the factory.

that's a very nice revolver and you got it at a fair price. I have one very similar, only mine has the Aged True Ivory two piece stocks and I went with .45 Colt.
After receiving mine (I was and am VERY pleased with it), I was preparing to order a second one in .44 Spl. when the company went belly up.
The signature on the backstrap and custom serial number were options when you ordered one of their revolvers. Those are "custom touches" and I wouldn't change a thing! Shoot it and enjoy it!

I found an old ad online that offered the backstrap signature. I saw that the CCH hammer was $100 extra, but didn't see a price for the signature engraving. I also didn't see the price for the fake ivory grips.

Super cool USFA. I wouldnt change it, but i might shoot hell out of it, and if the engraving wore off, oh well!

I bought a rusty pitted Rodeo .45 from a friend and sent it down to Ford's in florida for a high polish blue.

Grest result!

I have to correct my post on the guns I posted. I do not have a .45 Colt USFA, but a .44 Special USFA. The SN is 506DT, and was sent to Doug Turnbull in the white. He color case hardened the frame and hammer, blued the rest of the gun, and installed the Walnut one piece grips on it, and gave it the unique SN.

I called Turmbull's and they gave me the information.

I wouldn't give the signature a SECOND thought. It would be the first thought every time I picked it up. If it was Elmer K, or Roy Rogers maybe, but come on ... the owner of a construction company. HOw interesting can that be. How many owners of construction companies could there be in the U.S. Get rid of that signature any way you can. Grind it off, replace the backstrap, whatever.

$1100 for that gun including the custom case is a bargain today. I don't think the engraved backstrap if a detriment although I would prefer one without it unless the person was of some historical importance. I sure wouldn't put money into getting rid of it.

I own a USFA in .45 Colt/.45 ACP plus a couple in .44-40. They are excellent guns and have risen considerably in value. I think I would shoot that gun and enjoy it.

I checked my receipt for the USFA revolver and the 2 piece Ultra Aged Tru-Ivory grips were $200 extra. Incidentally, with the special order grips, my revolver was $1,110.00 in 2008. So yeah, I'd say you got a bargain on the price of that .44!

Thanks for thinking about me

I am actually quite fond of this revolver. I got in in Jan of 96. The 4 3/4" just clears leather so much faster than the 5 1/2" and I hip shoot better with it as well

Very gifted man, Bob Munden was.

We were supposed to get together at the 2013 SHOT Show. Bob got called home one month earlier

I can not see an offer that would convince me to part with this revolver

Sorry
