I see that S&W has announced that the M&P will be offered in 10MM. They will offer two barrel lengths, 4.0 and 4.6. These guns will have 15 plus one magazine capacity. Supposedly built on same frame as the .45 and use a modified .45 magazine.

Personally, I have never warmed up to the M&P semi, but this might just change my mind.

It's interesting but I don't think I'll ever warm up to the M&P's. I owned a first gen in 40, hated it. I then picked up a second gen in 9mm, hated it a little less. Around the same time I bought a M&P 22 and didn't even fire it. Sold them all with no regrets. For striker fired I'll stick with my Sigs and Walthers.

I have an M&P 2.0 compact with 3.6 inch barrel. It’s a great little gun! I wasn’t in love with the stock trigger, but an Apex flat trigger made a huge improvement. If I wanted a 10mm and didn’t have the cash for a 1006, I’d definitely grab one of these.

Sportsman's Outdoor Super Store is first out of the gate with a price: $609 for the 4", $619 for the 4.6", same price with or without safety. I've purchased several guns from them over the last 10 years and they are quite reputable. Their prices are usually near the low end but not 100% of the time. They do not, however, charge for shipping firearms.

We were out to the range today and Colt_saa showed me an ad that he had sent to him . I don't own an M&P but this one has me thinking . I own a 1006 , 1076 , CS40/10mm and a 610-2 and one of these would fit right in . Hopefully they will offer one that is optics ready .

I have 3 different M&P's. They have all been reliable and accurate. My .45 Shield is the easiest carrying .45 I have ever owned. I'm betting the new 10mm will be a great gun.

Agree with B.K

I've had Shields and M&P' of different sizes and calibers. End result was the same. Sold/traded.

I only have one polymer frame pistol left, a Walther P99AS. It is striker fired, but it has second strike capability. Plus it's southpaw friendly.

I have no interest in 10mm, even in 3rd Generation pistols.

You may already know by the time I post this, but they are all optics ready from what I saw.

M&P 10mm

I got out of 10mm a little while ago but I have been waiting so long for this I will buy the first one I can get my hands on.
Love the platform, the caliber, and it looks like the size goes to a place Glock 10mm's do not.

SA has been doing pretty well in the 10mm market as well, as of late.
Yea, Smith’s way late to the party; Glock’s been making a big and little 10mm for decades. Hope they sell a lot.

Yep - about time. People have been asking for the M&P in 10mm since M&P's came out, and that was what? - ~2006 or so?

I got sent to a S&W M&P's Armorer's Class some years ago.
As a result, got to purchase a .45 mid-size for $200.

This was the 'Gen 1' with the 'rubber-bandy' (best description ever) trigger and near undetectable reset.

With the 'small' grip insert and manual safety, I liked the feel.
Did an Apex Duty Carry trigger install on it and it helped immensely.

This has been my 'work gun' on security contracting jobs. If something happens to it, well, it's enough like a Glock that I'll feel no huge loss.

Glad they finally produced the 10mm. But I'll stick with my Colt Delta Elite and old duty M1076.

Everyone has been screaming about wanting this model for a while. Reward S&W for listening and BUY ONE!

Did they listen?

Not in a timely manner.

Glock released the 40 after the 20 and 29 and those sold before any of my LGS put them on the shelves.
I reward companies that actually listen to the consumer.
At the NRA show back in 2015, the S&W reps were snootier than a the guy working the counter at a Rolex shop.
I think I posted on here or another forum back then on how the reps turned their noses up when I asked about a 10mm M&P.
Well, I gave my business to Glock and was glad to do so.
S&W was my favorite brand.
Not so much anymore.
I still buy vintage and 2nd and 3rd gen guns whenever possible but this company has lost their flavor today.

Personally, while I applaud S&W for introducing a new 10mm pistol I think it is uglier than a mud fence, I don't like striker fired pistols nor ones with a Glock style safety on the trigger. Adding a light or laser to the rail and an RMR sight is just going to make it bulky and heavy and unbalanced and require a holster the size of a carpetbag to carry it in.

In other words, it looks like just another polymer pistol with all of the prerequisite features these days. Including being built to a price point. I'm sure that I'm not alone in lamenting that they don't bring back the 10XX series guns, and not only in stainless but in good old blue steel.

Maybe Springfield Armory will consider it ?

S&W is a company that doesn't make the firearms that many want anymore. I know plastic, two piece barrels, mim parts, etc allow competition on price, but they ought to offer a premium line that sells all steel semis and pinned and recessed revolvers made to a higher price point but with a lot of CNC machining that would save labor and tighten tolerances. Colt kinda did this with the new Python, but they left some hand finishing out that would help the fairly heavy SA pull.

The 10mm is designed as a HOT cartridge. I hope they took that into account. The Glock 20 was originally designed to pass a 40,000 round test specified by the FBI at the time.

Before S&W unveiled their 10mm M&Ps, I had hoped to track down the Croatian-made Grand Power 10mm pistol that offers CZ-ish ergonomics and a 14-rd mag capacity. In other words, a polymer alternative to the Block 20. Unfortunately they don't appear to be importing them anymore. (Old internet pic of the P-40 attached).

Maybe Springfield Armory will consider it?
The only all-steel platform in 10mm that S.A. is set up to produce is a 1911 (or a variant of it, like a 'Commander'). It's unlikely S.A. would spend the coin to tool up for another steel platform just to chamber the 10mm when they're currently offering three 10mm XD models.
