Along with my return to Bellingham was a long-overdue visit to Hardware Sales, a family-owned business for ~60 years. AFAIK it's the only real "hardware" store in the PNW.

I just needed a few internal and external retaining rings and various other small things. Here is one of the aisles just dedicated to fasteners.

Sticking out from the bins are plastic trays, which have bags and pens. You pick out what you need and write the stock numbers down on the bag.

What's not to like about a place like this? :D A few years ago I needed a 7/8" LH thread nut and couldn't find one, so I asked one of the staff. "Do you want fine or coarse thread?", he asked, since they had both. (If I recall correctly, they are in a bin facing an opening in the wall of bins about 1/2 way down on the right hand side of the pic above. You remember things like that!)

Edit: I forgot I'd taken a pic of this sign on the stairs. Quite aside from the pandemic, this area of the Pac. NW and north into British Columbia suffered devastating floods in November- estimated $50m damage in Whatcom County and >$1bn in B.C.

I finally got across the line to visit my gf in Bellingham WA yesterday, now that the PCR test on returning has been lifted. As is sometimes the case, the house was strewn with Amazon boxes ("for the benefit of the cats" was the official explanation.)

There are clearly "cat people" in Amazon's Marketing Dept., as some boxes now come with this message:
If you think you're excited,
wait 'til your cat sees this box.

Izzie (20 lbs.) was up to the challenge and has rendered his verdict: "A little too small".

HAHAHA! That's awesome!

When my wife and I drove to and through Alaska, we were luck enough to catch this sun lit view of Denali:

A few years later, we ran across this town in Great Britain. How would you like to have to write this down every time someone asked where you lived?

And last, my current companion and sometimes nemesis:

...

Which means: "St Mary’s Church in the Hollow of the White Hazel Near to the Rapid Whirlpool of Llantysilio of the Red Cave"

From this website:
"The actual name of the town is Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, or Llanfairpwll / Llanfair PG for short, but it is said that the name was lengthened in the mid-19th century as a publicity stunt to attract tourists to the area. "
In the same article you can hear a weatherman pronounce the full name in the process of a regular weather report. Goes by pretty quickly if you know what you're doing. Otherwise, there is a good chance of getting your tongue inextricably stuck in your dentures :D

We found it interesting that although a part of GB, with it's neighbor being England, how different the languages were. It's not quite like Spain and Portugal being divided by a range of mountains.
