Today I was at the mall when I saw Santa sitting in a throne chair in a roped off area near the food court. He was surrounded by gaily lit Christmas trees and colorfully wrapped gift boxes. There was a line of boys and girls waiting to visit with him and have their picture taken. Next to the entrance was a sign on a candy cane pole saying, ‘North Pole. All children visiting Santa must wear a mask.’

As I watched, a boy not wearing a mask approached Santa. Santa held up his hand and told the boy that he must wear a mask at the North Pole. The kid told him that his mother said he didn’t have to wear one. Santa said he was sorry but could not allow the boy in without a mask.

From out of nowhere the mom, who looked like she had just come from Walmart, is standing next to the kid. She starts berating Santa and what she called the stupid mask mandate, etc. etc. Santa is trying to calm the woman and the exchange became heated and loud. At one point Santa tells her that if he gets Covid he could pass it on to his reindeer and then no kid would have a merry Christmas. If I recited the woman’s reply to that, I would be banned from the forum. I can’t even recite some of Santa’s comments. At that point, they were both yelling at each other.

Finally a security guard intervened and escorted Santa out of the North Pole and hung a closed sign on the candy cane pole.

Believe me when I say, that was the best holiday entertainment I’ve had this year. After it was all over I kicked myself for not videoing the scene. I was just so amused and dumbstruck that it never entered my mind.

If you had gotten that on video, you would have been an instant YouTube sensation! I would have paid to watch that show. :D

Just this afternoon I put on the Santa suit and had a friend stop by the house with her 6 year old .
As they came in the back door I went out the front door and came to the back door. The little girl caught a glimpse of me going by a window and when I nocked at the door she went crazy.

Next it was pre-arranged to go to my friends restaurant for any kids there but mostly for his 3 1/2 year old granddaughter 2 of the waitresses were dressed as my helpers it turned out to be a lot of fun for everyone.

Finally I stopped to see my 3 and 5 year old grandkids and had a short stay as I did not want them to recognize my voice .

At each stop I handed out small gifts and candy canes .

In all it was a very great fun afternoon.
So HO HO HO !!! Merry Christmas !!!:D

When I was a kid we had the extended family Christmas at my maternal grandparents' home. A male relative would sneak into the garage and change into the Santa suit then come to the front door and pass out the gifts. One year when I was about 5 I asked why Santa sounded so much like Don Ray (my grandmother's youngest brother), so sometimes kids do notice things like that.

Proof positive, that despite the best efforts, of people with uncommon logic, and good sense, and the stupidity of others, our latest pandemic will continue and thrive. Some of our moralists have overlooked the statistics of this pandemic, and placed social rights above life and health.

That being said; Lock 'er down.

When I was a young boy, we lived in a rural area. We had a hardware store, a real hardware store that sold hardware, guns, ammunition, dynamite, etc. What you couldn't buy in the grocery store, you bought in the hardware store. Every December 24, the owner would put on a Santa suit, let the little ones sit on his lap, and hand out candy canes to everyone. Those were the good times.

The guard should have escorted the mother away. She spoiled it for a lot of others. She's a good example of what my mother called "people who can't spend more than ten seconds a day thinking about anybody but themselves. Does she allow people to enter her home and not abide by her rules?
