Sgt. Mike Viet Nam Humor

First night at Chu Lai waiting to be assigned I was put on guard duty. Herd bunch of booms back toward HQ and saw flashes over toward AF. Nobody seemed put out. I didn't know jack. In morning when they brought us back to HQ everyone was POed. That was 122mm rockets and wouldn't have been a big deal except the Dinks dropped one on Finance Office.

Had a 122 MM rocket hit on the other side of a tin prefab building from me one night. The next morning the building looked like swiss cheese. The Colonel was PO'd, as his office was in the building.

We had a 122 MM rocket hit in our living area one night. It hit on the path between hooches. It was a dud. EOD dug down a bit and found the fins from the rocket. They covered it back up and put a sign up saying "Unexploded Rocket" and left it that way.

They put us on an ammo dump because of upcoming Tet. Nothing at all for 10days we were there. They had flare ships keeping the paddies lit. You get use to flare casing ect plopping into paddies. One morning they spotted the shafts and fins of 122s sticking out off paddies. Not only duds but 5-600 yds short. EOD blew them in place.

When I heard "Rowrin, Rowrin, Rowrin down the Riber" it brought a smile to my face.

Went to the hospital at Saigon to visit a buddy. The round eye nurses were something to behold. That night at their O club you had to be a doctor to get a second look. Maybe it was the non-potable water we showered in.;)

I have to put in a good word for the nurses. When I was medevaced I wound up in a hospital in Japan. The nurses would sneak those of us who were ambulatory into their quarters after hours. A couple of drinks and some music sure helped morale. After a couple of hours they would get us back to the ward.

I was a ground Warrant and there were more flying WOs in there than 2nd LTs by far.

Is that a pea shooter or an M16A1?;) Did he have to put a horse blanket on the second one? Still funny. Maybe 'cause I was 1st Avn Bde.

I saw the dig on the 1st Cav too, but I also chuckled. (I was 1st Aviation Brigade too)

I thought about not posting that one. But then thought that all the services take shots at one another in jest. However, we all stand together when we need to do so. From a Jarhead!
