Promag, Reliable?

The ACT mags have been mentioned here a couple times. Are they reliable and good quality?

Considering the cost of OEM mags, I'd be willing to try a lower cost alternative for range use at the very least.

Factory mags only for self defense, after market mags for the range.

ACT mags are also made in Italy, like Mec-Gar. Their magazines are certified by firearm manufacturers and meet all specs. Even material used for production must be the same as used in original mags.

Would I trust them for carrying? Have no idea. So far I was lucky to buy original S&W magazines.
I've got one ACT mag for my range 1911 and so far I haven't had any issues.

I can not vouch for ACT, but their Sig 320 mags are highly regarded.
I also cannot speak to ETS mags but they seem to have a lot of negative reviews.

The 1 pro mag I had back when I had my 1.0, sucked major suckiness. Could never get through a mag without some kind of malfunction.

That said, keep an Eye out for Used/Police Trade in stock mags at AIM surplus and Natchezz (sp?). I picked up 10-20 of them pre panic for something like $12 a piece and they were in good to excellent condition.

my experience is anecdotal, so take it at face value

I have a couple thousand rounds through promags for the M&P... I must have been lucky because normally i would be the first to say they are trash.... however I have had 1 failure with the promag magazine and it was after being dropped repeatedly in the dirt at a match.

definitely cheap and normally I would avoid....but for range mags they have been good to me

I have 5 Promags for USP 45 sitting in a box. The plastic in the follower is cheap and got chewed up with use. I tried twice to contact them to buy new followers. They never responded. Friends don't let Friends buy Promag.

At the gun show here about 6 months ago I came across a table where the guy had a box of 25 my M&P, I asked him how much he said 3 each or if you buy em all 2.50 each. I bought em all, got home swapped out the innards with Brownell's mag rebuild kits and they've been running flawlessly since.

promags are universally bad. none of their mags function reliably. they're only good for cheap extra mags for range practice. also they chew up the magwell for some reason.

I've got 4 ACT mags for my Sig P220 and they are dead on reliable and priced right. I wouldn't hesitate to use one for carry.

Unfortunately not everybody prefer quality over the price.

Exactly! It's the crowd that buys based solely upon price that keeps ProMag in business.

There is a large portion of the the firearms market, that rarely or never shoot there guns. There are also a sizeable chunk of once or twice a year shooters that consider one malfunction every other mag "dead nuts reliable"

My M&P 15 Sport shipped with a MagPul PMag 30 GenM2 from the factory. It works well with it (zero feed failures), so I bought several more M2 30's, and included some M3 10-rounds, and some M3 20-rounds. All work, no probems. I have tried several different metal mags for it, and all had feed problems. I won't put plastic mags in any of my handguns, but my M&P likes them. Local and State PD's also use them.

Yep. I like Pmags. I have quite a few for several rifles. Unfortunately they don’t make mags for M&P handguns.

Magpul (brand) PMags and ProMag (brand) magazines have nothing in common.

Yep. As I sad, if Magpul made mags for this gun, I’d buy them.

I have a couple Promag for my Model 39, and they work great. I have one for my AR, and even with lots of fiddling around with it, I still haven't gotten it to work.
