Any other pot liquor drinkers here?

Please explain what gribenes is. This Southern ole guy had never heard/seen the word before now.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

If I recall correctly, it is some type of Jewish food like pork skins
only made of some other animal, maybe chicken. My friend in
the Navy was from Florida and his parents were from somewhere
up North, I think NYC. Anyway this was Kosher food of some
kind.

What's all this "cooking" you guys keep talking about?

I've barely mastered the timer on the microwave. Does this "pot liquor" come in cans with pull tabs? :D

I remember my mom made them a lot. Whole house would smell like someone took a dump in it.

They'd eat them covered in vinegar with pinto beans and corn bread.

I didn't.

My Yankee is in full force here.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

I thought this thread was about Irish whiskey, one variation is pot still.

And after reading the posts, I'll stick with my Bushmills, thank you.

quikdraw67, pot liquor is basically the juice you cook the greens in. When you cook the greens in water with the seasoning the pot liquor is the leftover liquid you drink after the greens are cooked. Hope you learned about some good ole southern cooking now. :D

When my grandmother or any other family member got the flu or a cold she would cook up a large pot of collard greens and either neck bones or some other kind of pork. She would add onions, sausage, hot sauce and other seasonings. The sick person got several doses of pot likker until well. Granny added more hot sauce, honey, and whatever alcohol (usually bourbon or moonshine) to her concoction. It actually seemed to help. She lived into her 90's and never took a pill or had a shot. I like to sip on pot likker with Crystal Hot Sauce in cold weather. It warms you up. Pot likker and cornbread is a good sick bed meal to me.

The only pot likker I've ever had was from beet greens, spinach, or Swiss chard. Bit 'o apple cider vinegar made 'em stand out.

For some really good likker you need the nectar from cooking clams for making clam chowder.

When I read the title I thought "uh oh!! Somebody went to the dispensary and got some THC beer."
Never had pot liquor, but it sounds good. I enjoy greens.
Knew a guy who would drink the tater water whenever his wife made boiled potatoes.never tried it but guess it would taste fine.
