Hello,

Picked up my first 41 Magnum today. Also picked up a box of...

Underwood 41 Rem Mag Ammo UW745 230 Grain Lead Keith-Type Semi Wadcutter Gas Check 20 Rounds

Muzzle Energy (ft. lbs) : 1,074
Muzzle Velocity (fps) : 1,450

Just wondering if you all thought it would take this ammo ... not much, mostly standard 41 Mag ammo like Precision One 41 Magnum Ammunition 210 Grain Full Metal Jacket 50 Rounds at 617 ft lbs.

How hot can I load this thing?

Should be fine. Even with a SAAMI maximum load, the 41 Magnum generates 10% less energy than the 44 Magnum, which is why the Model 57's did not suffer the durability problems of the pre-endurance package Model 29/629.

I just noticed this … & must say I am a little IRISH Green with Envy.
Congrats & nice 57 … TEXASJake.
Just take pride , cuz’ that revolver is one of the best.

FYI, the Underwood is to do some occasional shooting. I do daily shooting and I would use a 41 Special or a light 44 Mag loading.
I assume you reload? I also assume you meant to say "light .41 Mag" loading. .41 Special isn't an official SAAMI cartridge, although Starline makes brass for it.

I generally use starting loads to "tone down" my .41M loads. 19 grains of H110 will give you about 1050 fps with a 210 grain bullet. I haven't messed with getting the .41 Spl. brass so I don't have to readjust my dies for the shorter case.

Underwood Ammo is about $1.20 to $1.40 per round

My .41 mag loads cost about $1.50. Oh, but that's for a box of 50.

Gotta love reloading. After several loading, I consider the cost of brass to be negligible. Also, thank goodness I got all that free lead about 30 years ago. Finally, I'm glad I bought all those primers and powder when they were on sale the first week of March, 2020.

By my inventory count, that buck and a half price should last me another 6 years.

Just because you can doesn't always mean you should.
What's the purpose of the Underwood ammo.
Hunting Texas Whitetails or feral pigs it's probably a good choice.
Other than hunting?
