The Russians have gone in

Looks like Mariupol is in the
last stages of a "Remember
the Alamo" tragedy.

And within the entire context of
this conflict, Putin is sure to be
watching carefully Germany's
next moves on oil imports while
at the same time awaiting the
French election next Sunday.

Uh-huh. It's not like stuff the West has supplied during the Cold War to all kinds of other countries in less fraught conditions haven't gone AWOL. I have little doubt they turned up on the engineers' benches in the USSR, China or some other "fun" loving spot. We've done it to them and they've done it to us, it's not a one sided game. There's a complex relationship between risk, means and the end result.

Rudi,

I appreciate the the humor but I do hope the crew got to safety before they sank. Sadly the majority of the crew (less the senior leadership) have become victims of this insanity.

I have always been a bit of a Russophile. Took Russian in high school and college, mostly forgotten now. Love the culture, history, food, and have had some Russian friends. But we can say that the Russian people have suffered a great deal under their own rulers over the centuries. As now. The lies and propaganda they are being fed is sad. As the saying goes, "If the Russians stopped fighting now, there would be peace. If the Ukrainians stop fighting now they will be wiped out". I pray for peace.

LOL. Uh yeah.
Reminds me of when we did that 35 years ago at the begining of the Stinger missiles production during President Reagan's administration. Before we'd had a chance to supply them to American forces, we sent thousands to the Mujahideen fighting Russians in Afghanistan. Then tried to buy them back after the Russians left, eventually leaving many hundreds unaccounted for. A few were launched unsuccessfully at US craft in-country after 9/11/01.

Then as now, the most important strategic accounting method is Russian aircraft wreckage and their failure to control the sky. That's what they were made for.

If they have an Alamo like tragedy, I just hope they get their San Jacinto moment in a timely manner.

You cannot equate the people of Ukraine and their mindset with what went down in Afghanistan and Vietnam. The circumstances are not even close.

Recall that many analysts had Russian tanks doing donuts in the Dynamo Kyiv stadium inside a week of all this starting. See how well that worked out for the Russian army. The Ukrainians took the Fedayeen model from the 2003 invasion of Iraq and adopted it to their terrain and access to better weapons supplied by the West. NATO had similar plans for Europe should the Russians make it through the Fulda Gap.

Peanuts. A rounding error in our budget.
Far better to err on the side of freedom and do more, than doing less.

And don't forget that the West has frozen Russia's foreign currency reserves, and might just keep it.
