Gun sent to S&W, got quick turnaround!

My wife sent her Victory back to the mother ship for a warranty repair. At about 4 weeks she got a email saying the gun was in route. She found out it was due Friday and of course it said adult signature required. From what I have read on the forum the turn around of only 4 weeks was quite good-- Thanks S&W!

The delivery guy arrives and leaves the package by the door and takes off by the time my wife got downstairs. Obviously in spite of what it said on the well marked package by SW it was not signed for. My wife jumped on line and got on the UPS delivery updates and it says the gun was delivered and photographed as being delivered. (which is true but definitely not signed for.)

She was going to call UPS and read them the riot act but I talked her out of it. This is our regular driver and we are quite a ways from the road. We live rural and this area has no porch pirates and we knew the gun was coming. Like I said this driver is good and I could not see getting him in trouble, it was obvious we were home and he leaves things here all the time.

Changing subjects a bit the gun was fixed, the big screw in adapter came out of the barrel and the take down screw was solidly attached to the barrel adapter and in spite of my trying and a sort of gun smith at the lGS we could not free it.

You were lucky to get it that fast. Normally my S&W fixes took between 6-8 weeks.

No, it requires a signature for a reason. You can be sure, if it had disappeared, UPS would use that photo to absolve themselves of any responsibility.

I'd at least straighten the driver up directly.

Makes sense, like said he is a good driver and I really do not want to get him in trouble. He normally arrives at between a two hour period each delivery day, will have a friendly talk with him.

My (negative?) S&W experience...

I sent a S&W revolver back 7/1 for some work on a side plate that obviously had a defect from the factory...how it got through quality control I have no idea...they were to send me an estimate as to what the charges (if any) would be to repair it...I never heard a word back...I finally phoned them on 8/17 and was told it was in the department that will be sending me a "quote" for the work...I'm still waiting...seems to me like they could have gotten me a quote faster than this...not very good customer service in my opinion...Roger

I have had similar experiences with USPS, UPS, & FedEx. In fact USPS was just yesterday. I wonder if they are always just in a hurry to get done. Especially UPS those guys work long days.

During the pandemic all the delivery services suspended "signature required" services on the grounds of trying to avoid ANY contact between their drivers and the public. However that practice STILL continues and yet they (USPS, UPS & FEDEX) are still charging for the "signature required" service. That is straight up FRAUD. They are knowingly charging for a service they know they are NOT going to provide.

Makes me wonder how long my 340PD will be there for? The shop I purchased it at took care of sending it back for me, so at least it will be delivered back to the dealer and not sitting on my front porch.

For me, they'd pass on the actual signature but had to lay eyes on someone in order to leave the package.

I had to send a new S&W revolver in for Warranty Repair July 1st. It was supposed to go over to the Performance Center when finished. It came back repaired on July 29th.
I called about it going to the Performance Center and shipped it back the same day.
Apparently they were shut down for Maintenance the first week of August and it was Received on August 9th. I called to make sure it had reached the Performance Center and was told it would probably be at least 5 weeks before they called with the estimate.

I'm not making excuses for the driver but I will say that their assigned routes keep them on the run. You normally will not see one of them goofing off, chatting with people and such. In my opinion your talking the wife out of reading the riot act to someone was a good move.

I lost a beautiful M17 because the USPS driver left it at the wrong address at an empty (nobody lives there) house, obviously no signature was collected. ATF determined that the driver signed for the package and left it on the porch for someone to find. The seller refunded my money because he put the wrong address on the package instead of my FFLs.
