There was a time when I could buy a gun every so often and not be exiled to the coach, but with both kids in college, I was banished tonight for buying a magazine at the gun show today. It was worth it though because it was an S&W factory mag for my S&W Model 3913 for $40. Sleeping on the coach is like camping out, and the TV is bigger.

Not really a problem it is a comfortable sleeper sofa, just that I am monitored so closely these days.
Ours is a water-bed, so there isn't a sofa in the whole wide world that compares!
As for being monitored, that is a non-issue. I get my "allowance' that I save up to have a "mad money" fund.
If I want to buy something that isn't in the budget, and therefore might cause an argument, I buy it out of my mad money fund and then there is no reason for an argument. Or even a discussion for that matter.

You are still in the house, food, warm and big TV. So little sacrifice for a new magazine. The making up has benefits.

Her mother and both of her grandmothers made it to 94. Only the good die young.

A guy that I worked with was in the hospital and I sent him a card that said DON'T WORRY, ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG. He didn't think it was funny and he chewed me out. I wouldn't let the wife read that post. What have you done that caused this close monitoring. They say confession is good for the soul.

I've been blessed with a good wife. As long as the bills are paid, extra paid on the principal each month I can buy within reason without a question asked. We joke about this, I get all of the texts from every penny put on the CCs as she doesn't want to be burdened with watching the accounts. I've not bought anything that she didn't know about.

My wife and I both worked jobs and earned our own money until the age of 60. Since this was both our second marriages, ( and both our first spouses took all the money in joint accounts), we have always kept our finances separate. She doesn't give me grief about what I buy, nor I her. It's worked out well for 36 years so far.

We have separate bank accounts, only 'cause when I was working I joined the credit union. Used to be I had to trade a gun in or sell one if I wanted a new one. The question of money never came up. Now I just buy what I want & she doesn't even know. I'm going to start selling some off in the near future. It'll be easy, as I don't have a whole arsenal here like many people do. Our bills are paid so it's all good.
