My NEW favorite gun oil....

It is indeed fun trying new oils, greases, and cleaners. Over the years ive accumulated about 237,000 different ones. Ok, maybe i exaggerated just a little. But, i do have many in my shop. They all work, some work better than others in certain firearms and with certain internal components. Ive noticed the largest range with cleaners. Some work extremely well, some work rather poorly and most are middlen. Some smell better than others. Bottom line pick what works for you. There are many choices out there.

FWIW I just stick with break free CLP. It works for the very basic oiling requirements that my guns require. I'm not sure what sort of 100,000 round firing sequences people are doing where synthetic oil might start to have some sort of benefit.

never ran into anyone that's even aware of it.

I used to have a can of Tri-Flow .I don't remember how I acquired it .

I still use 3 in 1 machine oil. Has worked for me for the last 50 years or so.

Well...... I guess after reading all the responses here, I should have titled the thread, " Gun Oils that DON'T work". LOL!!

I guess for the most part even though we all have our favorites, most of the ones that have been around for a while actually perform an adequate job. Most of us don't go tromping through the Amazon, Antarctica, or the Sahara. I would also assume most guys/gals on this Forum take at least adequate care of their guns.

I'm not too OCD about gun oils as long as they do their job in a reasonable manner. That being said, while I don't agonize over my choices and I do have a few different ones on the bench, my typical choice is Breakfree CLP. The fact that they not only offer the full-size can for routine use but also the slim, transparent tube with the precision tip for tight places is just icing on the cake.

Ok, I'll bite, what is your favorite gun oil?

I'm using: Union Switch and Signal Spec 1093 Low-Temperature Lubricating Oil for spot oiling; Ballistol for bore, chambers, and exterior; GI LSA Weapons Oil, Medium, for slides and slide rails. The Spec 193 is unfortunately long-obsolete but I still have an ample supply.

In a pinch, I once used Wesson Corn Oil to get an M-60 running. It worked great but the mess sergeant gave me a good "what for" for taking it from the mess. I'm not sure how it would have held up in prolonged fire.

Darn. That means I will have to give up using old guacamole paste as a gun lube. It smells really great but is kind of messy.

Try rubbing the parts with a fresh cake of Irish Spring...Not much lubricity value, but the girls will love the fresh scent in your holster......Ben
