But then again, maybe there is some reluctance to accept the weather forecast.

The media lies about everything else why would people trust them to be truthful about the weather?
My wife and I were aghast at the number of people who crowded airports around Thanksgiving, because that and airplanes are a great way to spread various respiratory illnesses. With the three infestations at once, hospitals are really crowded. The week after Thanksgiving, thanks to these selfish jerks, the rate of infection related to those three diseases went up a lot.
I ended up in the ER a few weeks ago and they had to keep me in a room there for about 12 hours until there was a room. A friend's dad has had some odd stuff, and for over a week, he could not be transferred to a facility with higher care ability because there was no room. He STILL can't be admitted anywhere he needs to be seen. They actually sent him home under 24 her care by family until he can see a specialist as an out patient.
The insanity of placing social contact over enlightened self-interest is just amazing. Most of the people who want to travel simply do not need to. Your extended family will survive a while longer without seeing you - but your efforts to get to them might kill them or you. The number of people who are getting sick with flu, covid, or RSV as a result stupid visits is both staggering and completely unnecessary. It is utterly predictable.
Want contact with the distant family? Phone. Computer chat. There are other options that are not nearly as ill-advised.
Now days:
"COMMON SENSE IS NOT COMMON" and getting worse.
Hope I'm wrong but I'm not seeing any improvement.

"...Ditjak Ilunga from Gaithersburg, Maryland, told CBS News he was on his way to visit relatives in Hamilton, Ontario, with his daughters when their SUV was trapped in Buffalo. After spending hours with the engine running he made the desperate choice to risk the howling storm to reach a nearby shelter.New York calls in military police to enforce driving ban in Buffalo
He carried six-year-old Destiny on his back while 16-year-old Cindy clutched their Pomeranian puppy, and followed his footprints in the snow drifts.
"If I stay in this car I'm going to die here with my kids," Mr Ilunga recalled thinking.
He said he cried when the family walked through the shelter doors. "It's something I will never forget in my life," he said..."It's like a Category 3 hurricane with a bunch of snow mixed in," Chief Tim Carney of the Erie County Sheriff's Office told The Buffalo News of the brutal conditions."What could possibly go wrong?

*So I should cancel my hunting trip and we can all sit around at home.
Nope
Indeed. Nothing against solar panels etc. but probably not too practical in Buffalo, esp. in winter. Fossil-fuel furnaces and boilers still need power to run, but if you have a generator, you can at least stay warm if the power goes out.Speaking of Buffalo, Katie Pavelik of Fox said the homes of the folks who stayed home were warmed by oil and gas, fossil fuels, NOT solar panels or wind turbines. Food for thought...

And it is worthless on ice, especially black ice.
I've had 4 wheel drive or good all-wheel drive vehicles for the past 25 years and have never been stuck or stranded. When LE/DOT states No Travel advised, I don't. Exception being in town once in awhile.
I do feel Southwest airlines made some bad decisions early on during this past storm that has resulted in the huge mess still going on.
And then we have our covered bridges. Constantly being damaged by trucks. Here is a typical example.
Another truck damages Lyndon covered bridge; police seek driver
I blame the town and county for a bridge that is out of spec's for todays traffic !!
Either mark the minimal height or fix it !!
Or failed basic arithmetic. 9'8" > 8'11".You can mark the height all you like, but if the driver sees that no one is looking, rather than detour he will still chance it.![]()

I'm betting 2023 will be a banner year for Honda and Generac.
I think I have this beat...its the GPS's fault.
