The Gun Gods and I have always had an amicable relationship. When I was thinking about a new gun, I just put it in their hands and if it was to be, then within a few days, there I was staring at it and also at a very good price. If it was not to be, they let me know, and showed me I was being foolish.
Well....a few months ago, I talked to them about 4 months before the Nacadoches(sp), TX gun show. I had not been to a gun show in about 2 years because I was gradually getting disgusted by all the internet gun runners I was running into with their way over inflated prices.
but...I wanted an M1 Garand. I have had 3 in the past, and felt a little off-balance by not having one.
So...I talked to the Gun Gods and asked..." Ok, Gun Gods, I have saved up $3,450. Let me find just one Garand and I will stop buying guns altogether and concentrate on finishing my novel and screenplay. I figured at least 1600 but was prepared 2500 if that was what it takes.
The day arrives and I walk in the door and not 2 aisles in, there is this old geezer selling Garands for (get this) $950 each with a CMP case, 4 clips, and book included. Snagged one up immediately. Now I am walking around with the Garand in the case, but dang that case was heavy! Take it to the truck, cover it with a blanket, then go back in.
Poking around there so more and something else falls under my eye. A Japanese Nambu pistol. Had $675 for it, and as I was looking at it, the guy says, Hey, if you want it, she is yours for $500. BOOM ! Now I have a Nambu in my gun show canvas bag.
I poke around a little more and some internet gun runner has a Garand that is in much worse shape than the one I just got, and he wants $1,900 for it. I snicker and wander off.
Then it hit me...Hey, Dave, I could have gotten two for the price of his one ! So I did! Went back and got another one.
So...I told the Gun Gods this was my last gun show (and meant it) so they made sure it was also MY BEST gun show. Two Garands and a Nambu pistol. $2,400 for everything.
