The Gun Gods and I have always had an amicable relationship. When I was thinking about a new gun, I just put it in their hands and if it was to be, then within a few days, there I was staring at it and also at a very good price. If it was not to be, they let me know, and showed me I was being foolish.

Well....a few months ago, I talked to them about 4 months before the Nacadoches(sp), TX gun show. I had not been to a gun show in about 2 years because I was gradually getting disgusted by all the internet gun runners I was running into with their way over inflated prices.

but...I wanted an M1 Garand. I have had 3 in the past, and felt a little off-balance by not having one.

So...I talked to the Gun Gods and asked..." Ok, Gun Gods, I have saved up $3,450. Let me find just one Garand and I will stop buying guns altogether and concentrate on finishing my novel and screenplay. I figured at least 1600 but was prepared 2500 if that was what it takes.

The day arrives and I walk in the door and not 2 aisles in, there is this old geezer selling Garands for (get this) $950 each with a CMP case, 4 clips, and book included. Snagged one up immediately. Now I am walking around with the Garand in the case, but dang that case was heavy! Take it to the truck, cover it with a blanket, then go back in.

Poking around there so more and something else falls under my eye. A Japanese Nambu pistol. Had $675 for it, and as I was looking at it, the guy says, Hey, if you want it, she is yours for $500. BOOM ! Now I have a Nambu in my gun show canvas bag.

I poke around a little more and some internet gun runner has a Garand that is in much worse shape than the one I just got, and he wants $1,900 for it. I snicker and wander off.

Then it hit me...Hey, Dave, I could have gotten two for the price of his one ! So I did! Went back and got another one.

So...I told the Gun Gods this was my last gun show (and meant it) so they made sure it was also MY BEST gun show. Two Garands and a Nambu pistol. $2,400 for everything.

The gun gods were kind to me about ten years ago. Somebody on BrokeGunner was selling a Steyr GB with two mags just before Christmas. The gun gods messed with the seller's camera settings so that made the gun look very worn and tired. Aaahh, but I knew it looked the way it did because it was one of the 937 military finish pistols imported to the US and the light was weird. Score!

Yup, you and so many others get it. They can have a good sense of humor too. Either way, the Gun Gods keep us in line and don't let us stray too far away from sanity. You just have to be quiet and listen to what they are telling you.

Those that know...KNOW. ;)

I wanted a couple different old shotguns. Visited a big dealer out in the sticks that I only get to 1-2x a year, sat and thought about my wants in the parking lot, walked in, and there in the back on the "cheapo" rack was the exact gun… not just the model, the exact sub-model I would have hoped for. For like $150. Thank you Gun Gods!

Give us some details on the M-1's, serials, barrel dates, markings. They are good looking rifles in your picture.

Is the Nambu nickel plated, or is that the lighting?

Great write up, the Gods were Good to you!!

OK, I can give data on both Garands, no problem.

As for the Nambu, nope, it is not the lighting. It is a silvery nice finish. I have read it may be CHROME plating and not nickle. Lots of vets chrome plated their trophy guns to help preserve them back in the day. But some Japanese officers also nickle plated their guns once they obtained them. They could buy whatever sidearm they wanted, and most preferred the Colt .32, believe it or not.

This bothers me. There was no reason to call him an old geezer. You got three excellent bargains. He picked a price that he was comfortable in letting them go for. I have done the same thing when I thought the firearm I was selling was going to a good home. You were most fortunate. Karma doesn't like smug.
