32 Hand Ejector 1903, 1st change

I saw this revolver in a local gun store today. Nickel 3 1/4" barrel #39169 with a five point star at the end of the serial number. What is the significance of the star? I don't recall seeing this before & I'm not well versed on the early hand ejectors. Hopefully the picture let you see what I'm asking about.

The star after the serial number indicates that the revolver was returned to S&W at some point for repair and/or refinish. There should be a date stamped near the toe of the grip frame underneath the left grip panel. It would appear in month/year format, such as 11.21 to indicated November 1921, the date the revolver was repaired/refinished. Hope this helps.
