Chinese Spy Balloon

What is more disturbing is that it flew over Alaska and Canada before entering CONUS.

Oh boy! Oh boy! Oh boy! I got to get my lawn chair ... hydrogen ... some weather ballon ... moon pies ... RC cola ... and my beloved .22 LR S&W 18-2. Yeah boy! Like the old Air Force recruiting poster once said, "Aim High!" With any luck, I can deflate that chicom camera operation and get down in time to make the 6 PM news!!! Even better, I can put the video up on YouTube and make enough money to pay my FFA fine! Sounds like a plan! Gonna need some wool socks. M-65 jacket with liner. I'll supply the .22 LR ammo. Sincerely. bruce.

While it's over Montana steelslaver should go outside and give them a salute with his southern hemisphere.
LOL. You're a bad influence- I got "infracticated" for posting an image of someone in a bomber doing just that, thus causing TomS to get his "demooner tool" out and remove it.

I heartily endorse the idea, though :)

Maybe the AF unit which use to catch film capsules eject from US photo satellites should be activated again. Shot the balloon down and let them catch it!

From one of our papers up here. The ususal "boilerplate text" stuff:
'"...The Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces issued a joint statement Thursday night that says the balloon’s movements were being actively tracked by the North American Aerospace Defence Command...

It says Canadians are safe and that Canada is taking steps to ensure the security of its airspace, including the monitoring of a potential second incident.

“NORAD, the Canadian Armed Forces, the Department of National Defence, and other partners have been assessing the situation and working in close coordination,” says the statement.

“Canada’s intelligence agencies are working with American partners and continue to take all necessary measures to safeguard Canada’s sensitive information from foreign intelligence threats.”

...Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder, Pentagon press secretary, provided a brief statement, saying the government continues to track the balloon. ...

He said similar balloon activity has been seen in the past several years. He added that the U.S. took steps to ensure it did not collect sensitive information...
I wonder how they "took steps to ensure it did not collect sensitive information"? The hurried camouflaging of missile silos as Walmarts?

We had a number of High Altitude Balloon Programs.
Knew a PI (Photo Interpreter ) who worked the film. They were primarily looking for ICBM Sites.
Rule one was don’t add a site already seen.
The problem was balloons stumbled around with the wind and the sites were mostly in remote stretches of Russia.
So when they saw a site it was difficult to precisely locate it.
When they worked aircraft film like from a U2, which he also did, you have a flight plan -route on a map as a reference .

The Catch A Falling Star program wasn't particularly successful. Apparently the AF wasn't much of an outfielder. I think the Navy should snag it with an F-18 tailhook and drag it home.

I have a hard time getting worked up by a balloon with all the other intelligence gathering methods being used today. On the other hand, I bet shooting down a balloon would be a pretty fun time.

Oooooh, oooooh, China has a spy balloon
over Montana.

Meanwhile, the U.S. secures four new bases
in the Philippines completing a string of
defenses against China from Japan to
Australia. And Japan and Australia are
beefing up their militaries.

And meanwhile, a major Marine base,
Camp Blaz, is opening in Guam to add
forces to the Far East.

And, and and yet meanwhile NATO has
grown stronger while Finland and Sweden
help expand a ring around Russia while at
the same time U.S. forces are now a major
factor in Poland.

The U.S. lately has been quite busy indeed.

Ooooooh, oooooh, meanwhile China has a spy balloon
over Montana. Oh, hey, what about the Chinese
spy ship near Hawaii?

The sooner people realize that the “news” is nothing more than things/the narrative that our government wants us to be exposed to, the sooner we we may begin to do something about the mess we’re in. And I mean all of the “news” that we’re hearing from any mainstream outlet. We are better served to think about what we are not being told, and why, than to try to reason with what is being fed to us.

I'd be more concerned about native spies on their payroll. There are plenty of other Johnny Walkers out there. All the electronics with spyware, or some sort of components they can quickly disable with the right signal.
.

I just heard that our revered Secretary of State hs cancelled his scheduled visit to China because of the balloon affair.
