M&P rebates and 10MM concerns

It's dragging the firing pin. My Shield does this. I don't think it's an issue.
That isn't the problem I have. I can see that.

It is clearly a raised edge. U can feel it. Marks completely across the case and primer laterally. Dragging firing pin can't possibly mark all the way across the case.

That's good to hear. S&W (or any mfgr) should listen to customers who have problems and step up and make any changes to fix the problem. I would have much more confidence in a manufacturer if they would step forward and admit to the problem and it's actions to fix it than I do for those that prefer to hide the problem as if it never existed.

I have heard theories about the M&P 10mm and what has caused the mag drop problem. Some are saying that the problem only appears when shooting the more powerful rounds that have a larger, more blunt projectile. Theory is that this more squared off bullet sets much closer to the notches in the magazine that hold it in place, and under recoil may actually trip the mag release. Just theory, but it makes sense.

Really hot 155 and 165 grain round noses don't do it from what I have read, or hot well tapered 175 truncated cone loads.

I have read this as well. Loaded a mag full of Grizzly 200gr wnfp and yes the bullet does look like it could trip the mag release. That being said, I saw a YouTube video of a guy testing heavies in a Glock and it was also dropping the mag-and those are fully enclosed in the front.

As I noted in another post , the newer mags seem to have a stiffer spring. Also the springs are installed to push the back of the follower up.

No problems with my 4” yet but the hottest load I’ve tried in it is Winchester 175gr Silvertip. I have purchased a 24# recoil spring for the heavies, just no time to play currently. We shall see….

The 4" 10mm I just bought may have a different magazine catch. It looks smoother with almost no stippling and you press it quite a long way before the mag drops. It seems very positive.

I agree, it only takes a few online complainers to hurt the reputation of any manufacturer's product. It seems that many M&P 10MM owners have had good luck with their pistol, but there are still many who have had problems and so far I haven't seen anything to indicate that the problems have been addressed.

As an owner of several M&P pistols, I've been very happy with the performance of all of them but I'm still reluctant to jump on the M&P 10 MM bandwagon for some reason.

I think I'll continue to check out some of the competition. I've seen a few complaints about the Sig P320 10MM and for some reason the Sig offering just doesn't do anything for me, even though I do own a couple of P320s.

So far I've heard nothing but good about the Springfield Armory XD-M Elite, so that one's still in the running and probably in the lead so far.

The new entry into the 10MM field that I may have to check out is the new FN 510. The FN has all the bells and whistles but is so new it's mostly untested and it is pretty expensive compared to others.

But for now the search continues.

Like you I have not had issues with my M&P's (Plus trigger was the exception) and am thinking about the M&P 10mm to replace my SA XDm 10mm. If you visit the SA forum you will find issues with the Elite there also. I personally prefer S&W plastic over all others except for production 1911's it's SA all day. Guns are mechanical and mechanical things will have issues.

Got my 4.6" and it shoots great, but I noticed a line across the primer in the brass. There is a raised seam across the breech face. Anyone else see this in there m&p 10mm?

Guess I am gonna have to send it in for repair.

Can some others with this gun check their breech face and see if it is smooth or has a raised line across the firing pin hole. I am wondering if this is some sort of artifact from casting that they failed to polish off and or if mine is a one off.

Thanks,

Rosewood

No lines on my hole.

It looks normal.

Still no issues with my 10mm...

I put another 100 rounds (Syntech Range 205g) through my S&W M&P 10mm 2.0 on Friday, with absolutely no issues. That makes a total of 600 rounds since I purchased the pistol at the end of Sept. I used 3 different 15 rd. magazines (the 2 that came with the pistol and 1 purchased in Dec.)- no F2F issues, no magazine drops, no ejection of the last unfired round. My Holosun 507C also worked flawlessly, with no loosening of the mounting plate screws. I'm totally happy with the M&P 10mm so far, and feel that mine has now passed the dependability test.

Except the Glock 20 has been humming right along for 30 years.
The issue is not the material in the guns but a rush to market, and to hell with having it completely ready to be sold.
Reliable G20?? I had one and it would not run on Double Tap ammo. Sent it back to Glock. They did their thing and sent it back. Same thing, would only work on lame range ammo.

Called Glock, they tested it with the same weak ammo, the only stuff the G20 worked with. Don

Sent to mothership Thurs. Will see what happens.

Well, got it back in less than a month, but alas, they didn't do anything to it. Noted on the order that it was "cosmetic" and they test fired it. The raised edge is still on the breech face. Instead of fighting with them, I took my dovetail safe file and tried to take it down, but that metal is hard. I think I got it down some and smoother. Will have to shoot and see what it does to the brass and primer now.

I usually brag on S&W's CS, but doing nothing is hard to brag on. Didn't cost me anything other than time though.

It's pretty much a given that once corner-cutting corporate S&W got rid of their QC dept. overhead (making the buyers their unpaid inspectors), the CS dept. (and making needed repairs on their products) was going to be getting some of the same corporate treatment.

So glad that S&W dragged their *** on getting the M&P 10 to the market. I got tired of waiting and bought the XDm Elite. I love it.
Impatience can be a virtue sometimes.

Personally I think the 10mm in full loading is too much for a plastic pistol. No matter what the engineering is. My two 10's are a 1006 and a 1911. Both are steel, Both are heavy. Both will probably last forever. Both mine are old with Oodles of rds through them. Again I don't believe plastic with cartridge(if shot a lot) will hold up over time.

After reading all these posts about the challenges with the M&P10 I can't help but wish Smith just did a run of 1006s.

From a warranty standpoint, I think it depends on who receives it. Some of their "gunsmiths" will fix it, some will send it back. I had a TC barrel I sent in twice before they acknowledged there was a problem. I feel I could likely fight with them to get this fixed, but easier to fix myself than fight with them.

I think I am going to take mine to the range next trip. Along with my 1076 and 1013. :)
