Took my converted 1917 from 45acp to 44special,,Out again today to sight in new load,, Worked out ,,got it zeroed in to hit POA to POI ,,
Everything was great,,Later in the day I picked the gun up and cocked it and the hammer slipped from under my thumb and I heard something hit the floor???? I thought what could have fell off the gun? I looked at the gun,,,it was the hammer spur!!!!! That's why my thumb slipped off,, the spur broke off! I have never heard of this happening before. I guess you just never know!

It can happen, either a flaw in the steel or perhaps the revolver was dropped on a hard surface and the spur absorbed the impact.
