Regardless of his policies, a good, honest, decent man of high moral character. And our only President to have graduated from the Naval Academy.
I cashed in a CD at 12% interest to buy a boat. The boat dealer chastised me for paying cash and got me a 12% boat loan. I bought another CD at 14%.
Indeed. Going off the gold standard as well the early 70's oil embargo are credited with more than doubling interest rates by 1973 to over 8% and pushing them over 12% in 1974. The man credited with bringing us out of the high inflation period was Paul Volcker - appointed by Carter in 1979 to chair the Federal reserve. Within a few years, inflation was back to 3.8% and smart people who had double digit mortgages were refinancing at more acceptable rates.I suppose going off the gold standard in the early 70's resulting
in the dollar falling like a rock around the world had nothing to
do with inflation and rising interest rates?

A nuclear reactor was melting down. Jimmy Carter came to the rescue.
In 1952, Lt. Jimmy Carter, then 28, was one of the few people in the world qualified to enter a damaged nuclear reactor and help take it apart...
