Why we should dump “casual” from our vocabulary.

Women have a gazillion options to choose from, that's where I get a bit jealous. You gals really can mix and match and still look good.

It always depends on where you work and in what position, but a lady should always dress like a lady when out and about.

The last two pictures are from Sterling Woerner and she works for Tom James. She does that for a living and I'm always blown away when I look at these outfits.

Ralph Lauren too has beautiful outfits for women.

Females can also pull off skinny jeans, sneakers and a nice shirt. Guys look ridiculous when they do it.

Too much to list, but options are endless for ladies.

My opinion is that less is more, unless you are on the beach. Then we all like to look at nice bikinis ;)

Beg to differ, having 4 daughters it's very difficult to get properly fitted clothing for women. Most are cut for sticks, or a sack.

I guess I'm a book of many covers.

Here are a few examples:

This picture gets me every time. Timeless elegance, sexy, intriguing. I'd probably crash my car passing by her...

A conservative dress. Timeless, never gets old!

A new age 3pc pants suit. Wow. Ladies don't understand the power of this outfit. Take the jacket off and you can either wear a nice blouse or go sleeveless. Boom.

Modern dress. Simply stunning.

OMG!
1st picture. Ok if it was 1946 and I was 21.
2nd, Screams 50's housewife
3rd, OK, but not me
4th. Forget it.

Now, I own a pawnshop in a lake resort area, What would be the proper attire for me to wear at work?

Yeah, some really fits weird, but every brand fit differently. We have good success with womens shirts when they want a female cut or a mens shirt (a size or two smaller) when they want a more relaxed cut.

Pants can be a struggle too, but you have a petite section and a section for larger women. Plus, with all the stretchy material nowadays, I think there are plenty of options out there to find a good fit. Going custom is always an option too for adults.

As a bald man myself, I like George Costanza's view on hats in "The Parking Space".

George: I really think it looks good.
Elaine: Ten bucks, how can you go wrong?
George: All bald people look good in hats.
Elaine: You should have lived in the '20s and '30s, you know men wore hats all the time then.
George: What a bald paradise that must have been.

Haha, what, you don't like it?! :D

Funny thing is that the style of wardrobe in the first picture is still available.

As far as your attire goes, whatever you feel like is proper for your work, that's it. You can never go wrong with some nice dressier pants (wide leg or regular) and a nice blouse. Nice shoes don't have to have a heel (unfortunately high heels are overrated). Or a conservative dress (or skirt and blouse) and cowboy boots or sandals, which would also work for hotter days. Maybe a jeans and nice blouse for casual Friday. Again, endless options.

I got a chuckle when I read, "find a good tailor and dry cleaner." We live in a small town way out in the mountains of West Virginia.
With the weather we're having now, if I actually wear a shirt, it's a tank top. Then that's usually part of my workout wear going to or coming home from the gym.

This is an interesting thread. I'll add a few thoughts....
...And one of my main gripes, don't judge a customer by their window dressing. I have been, it is degrading, I'm down to 1 maybe 2 car dealerships that I'll consider doing business with.
Lexus welcomes my business, Ford and Chevy not so much.
Reminds me of a story my dad told about a local dealership.
He showed up in his usual "retired guy casual" looking to trade in his Buick Roadmaster for a newer model.
Some of the senior sales guys wouldn't give him the time of day.
When he finally got one of the more junior sales people to help him, he not only bought the upgraded brand new Roadmaster, he also bought a nearly new GMC Blazer too - and paid CASH for both of them.
The guys who wouldn't give him the time of day all stood there with their jaws on the floor and their eyes bugging out, when they realized they had screwed themselves out of a couple of thousand bucks in commission, all because they didn't take the old guy in the Walmart jeans and flannel shirt seriously...

And that's okay because you are off to the gym and not at the car dealerships customer service counter ;)

Nothing wrong with jeans and flannel shirt. These people were probably arrogant *******s, judging, and didn't deserve better.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree. Summertime, knee length shorts and a t-shirt or a dress that you would consider to be a beach coverup with sandals or tennies. Cooler months, straight leg jeans, cowboy boots and a flannel shirt or sweater.

To add:
If I saw a gal like the No 1 picture now days, I'd think high class hooker.

It's 2023. Why be jealous when you can join in?

There seems to be an inverse relationship between men's fashion and competence. The more fashionable, the less competent. Perhaps it's a way to try to make it look like they are more adept than they really are. Or maybe it's a way to try to intimidate people into believing that you are in control, whether or not you actually are. I tend to look at the highly dressed person with the same jaundiced eye that I would use if they were dressed like a hobo. The reality is that in a professional situation your dress shouldn't be noticed, one way or the other. Which means that you should be clean, neat, respectful and dressed for the conditions around you. I shouldn't be noticing your tie clip or cuff links or wondering who your tailor is.

Thanks for sharing. It's a nice selection, but I need to google teenies :o Maybe try a nice blouse with your shorts next time ;)

I usta work the front counter in the parts department of a Toyota dealership. Every day I'd wear a white dress uniform shirt, a black tie and black slacks. The service writers wore the same. That was probably 'bout 30 years ago.

I agree that you should always be clean, neat, respectful and dressed for the conditions around you.

However, I disagree with your last sentence. Why? Because if you talk to me and look like this ↓

I will ask you for your tailor. I recently got a compliment from a guy about how I was dressed, going to our oldest son's HS graduation. This was very nice, and I like to give compliments too when someone or something looks good.

Of course it should be noticed in a professional setting, especially if you are a so called supervisor etc and talk to both employees and the public.

But times have changed, I guess, seems like not many people care about that anymore.

I wondered how long it would be before ball caps were brought into the mix. Most places I go lots of folks are sporting ball caps indoors including me. It bothers me not at all. Sometimes I wear mine backwards. I have yet to have anyone ask me to remove it nor I them. Again it's that pesky Persuit of Happiness thing.

What's next on the disapproved list? Ink?

I'm going to go with the Grizzly Adams look.
