Why We CHANGED the Forum Software

As a moderator on another forum, thank you. New format is easier to use on my smart device. Can't stop notification on whats happened on forum emails however. Been through settings and can't make it stop.

I discovered I got a ton of notifications. Went back to my settings and found 2 sections related to emails.

First, under Settings/Account Details/Email Options (just below your email address). Uncheck the boxes.

Next under Preferences (you may already have been here). The email options are the same from the Accounts Detail page. Make sure they are still unchecked. Check/uncheck the rest as desired.

I could have sworn I had these disabled prior to the change over. With all those boxes unchecked, the flood has now stopped for me. I login here pretty much everyday so I'm fine with the online alerts.

The only thing I have found sub-optimal is that the old software bolded the new postings so I could follow strings more easily and disregard older postings. I don't see the here, and the last update description is not nearly as eye grabbing.

Are you using the DARK theme? It is "bolded" but the contrast of the blue on the dark background doesn't stand out very well. I've switched back and forth from light to dark. It's more apparent on light but it's a bit too harsh for me.

I just noticed that I can delete my own posts. Very interesting. Especially since I noticed it on some blank post I must have made by fat fingering. I sent it packing!

Keep up the good work Lee & MODS! This place is still my go-to hangout for all things S&W ... I check several sub-forums a few times a month, this is my second post with the new software. Looks good, and I'll have to learn the 'new' features .... or be a curmudgeonous Luddite set in the old world ways
:p

We chose XenForo because it is very User friendly. I know we all hate change, but just stay calm and get to know it. You'll like it once you learn how easy it is to use. Also, most of the other gun forums are now using it, so you'll have the same experience on multiple forums that you use. It is particularly easy to post pics now!
Thanks Lee and mods, and apologies to Ridley Scott :)

Thank God! The old forum format was TERRIBLE!!! It's why I rarely came here.

Simple- Because we had to. We had been running that version of vBulletin since 2009. It was nearing "End of Life" and would no longer be supported with upgrades or security fixes. That would leave the forum vulnerable to attack.

I'm sure you have noticed that we don't have advertising installed yet. It will be soon, but ads don't really support us anymore. The payout from internet advertising has steadily decreased for the last eight years and only pays a small portion of what we need to operate.
So, I'm asking for your help. If you can afford it, please consider becoming a supporting member. We offer extra features to donating members.

THANKS to all of you who have supported us over the years. I sincerely appreciate you! You folks have kept us operating.
I appreciate the change, but you need to add something to be able to limit the amount of emails. I would be nice to reduce it to once a week for a summary, not daily.

Interesting thing happened when I did my bookmarks to go the site a few minutes ago. I got a prompt that said "First we are checking to see if you are a human." Then it went to the home page. First time that has happened since the changeover.

Just turn off the emails you don't want. Listed in your profile, I think. I don't get any emails at all.

Guys, don't be afraid to look in your account (User CP on the old forum)! Click on your suer name in the upper right corner of the page and you will see a drop down menu:

If you click on Preferences, you will find where you can turn email notifications on/off:

There are many things YOU can do in this area to make things more to your liking!
