The Dark Web

Might find a gun or two, possibly a Russian wife.

The “dark web” ?
Funny you should ask. One day here a while back I thought I had wandered into the “dark web” but later I found out that some how my brightness adjustment had been turned down real dim. Once I adjusted my display brightness correctly, everything was okay. That’s as close as I’ve gotten to the “dark web”.

…..Caj? :p:D

Is it a wretched hive of scum and villainy?

Last thing I remember
I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before
"Relax," said the night man
"We are programmed to receive
You can check-out any time you like
But you can never leave!"

:D

I've been to enough seminars and spoken to enough experts on this stuff to realize that EVERYTHING you do from your keyboard is permanent and available to be found by anyone who is looking and knows what they are doing. Only way to be totally safe is to use carrier pigeon or if you're looking for a wretched hive of scum and villany, use the 500 mile rule and drive yourself so you can leave when YOU want to.

That's why I use the backdoor access I up-loaded to Caj's computer whenever I surf the dark web looking for hitmen and drugs. :D

If I was going to use a computer to do a crime. I would go to a city, pay cash to get a used lap top from a pawn shop. In another city, walk to and sit outside a joint with free wifi wearing a hat with a brim and a covid mask. Never use the same place and keep it short.

Hard road to trace back

I've always heard stories about the Dark Web. Its real big in movies too. Supposedly you can find anything you want there. Girls, guns, drugs, hit men or WMDs. Couldn't prove any of that by me. I have no idea how one goes about finding this stuff or even what the Dark Web really is or how to access it.
Heck, I can barely order a pizza on the internet.

Part of the cybersecurity training curriculum for my workplace involves a candid and detailed description of what the Dark Web is, how to access it, and what can be found on it. Just hearing that was enough to satisfy any curiosity I might have had, and deter me from ever trying to go there...

TOR browser is pretty had to trace. It bounces you all over the world. This was after being on less than a minute. And that's not my IP address.

Your IP address might be untraceable, but I wonder how many of those "hit men" for rent are law enforcement agents?

People get arrested all the time for crimes that began with an internet search...why even chance putting yourself on the radar of some government agency? No thanks.

I'd guess close to 100% are law enforcement.

People still probably fall for it thou.

I work with folks in LE and my office that enforce various laws rated to really vile stuff (things I am pretty sure I can't even describe without getting points and showing up on web search on which I do not want be). Pretty much everything that they encounter starts on the dark web, and I have NO interest in the contents thereof or looking like a denizen of those regions.

If my workplace told me not to use something, probably the first thing I would do when left the training is use it.

Seen the browsers like Tor and Yanex/Yandex/whatever.

Having seen some of that stuff on a friend's computer I can honestly say that nothing on the dark web is of interest to me. All of what I saw was questionable legally and regardless of what you may think...if you are on the net, you're being tracked/watched by someone other than moderators!

Regular internet is a minefield as it is without having to deliberately walk into one.

It isn't just the dark web. On occasion there is stuff that attaches to legitimate sites such as this one. Firearms, military and law enforcement related sites are notorious for such attachments from time to time...even this one.

My advice: keep your curiosity about the dark web just that and leave it alone. Like a quija board, you don't know WHAT you'll conjour up there.
