Sorry for my ramblings this evening, but I just got in from collecting eggs out in the hen house and throwing hay to the equine gang. It's gently snowing...the wet , heavy kind that I hate to shovel. It was right before dusk as I was making my way to the house, and I spooked a couple pheasants from what was left of the corn patch this summer...probably picking up some of the kernels that were scattered earlier.

There's a big pot of homemade vegetable beef soup simmering on the old gas range and some Parmesan bread ready to go under the broiler. Miss Judy is upstairs reading and I'm downstairs with the two dogs. They were outside with me, got snowed on, and are now steaming themselves in front of the fire.

During times like this, I tend to think that even with all the gunk going on in the world, and even in our own country, I can't help but think that life is really pretty good.

Oh, don't get me wrong. We all have troubles. No mistake about it. Whether its financial difficulties, health issues, employment...you name it, those things are just a part of life. But when push comes to shove, things aren't too bad.

As we celebrate this time of year, I find that I'm grateful for what may seem to others as "little things." A bowl of homemade soup. A couple of old dogs lying by the fire emitting an odor reminiscent of wet wool blankets. Family. And of course friends, a few of which I have come to know through this forum.

Thanks for putting up with me. It's always good logging onto the Forum and seeing what's going on in your lives. May you have a wonderful Christmas, joyous New Year, and an overall good holiday season.

Mr. Mule Packer, you hit the nail on the head. We need to spend more time looking for the blessings of life rather than dwelling on the negative. My hope is that you, and all the folks on this forum, have a wonderful, blessed Christmas as we recognize the reason for the season. Thanks for putting things in perspective.

As I type this I am snuggled up on the couch with my lovely wife in our lovely new home after a lovely dinner. We have cued up LOTR and the boys have joined us.

The smell of chocolate chip cookies permeates the house.

My list of things we are grateful for is a lengthy one.

Chip, Ruthie and I would be proud to break bread with you and Miss Judy.

Speaking of dogs ....... We took our Aussies to see Santa and have their Xmas pictures taken , we do it every year .My wife started something years ago . She gets a dog themed tree ornament if we lost one during the year . They have a place for a picture of the fur baby we lost , then when we do the tree , our girls are always with us .

I constantly work to remind myself of that, and also try to find something good and upbeat every day. Especially when Mom is having bad days with her dementia. Both for myself and for her. Most of this morning and after lunch was a real bear today, but she got a good nap this afternoon and was much better. I noticed some really good sunset colors out at the horizon just before we lost all light, and she came out to see it as well. A good ending to a rough day that made it much easier for me to start winding down this evening after she went to bed.

At 72 I'm happy to be retired and have a roof over my head. Money's not a real problem these days but it took a lot of saving to get there.

I put up the Christmas tree today and had our lawn service put up the lights outside. They did a nice job. I'm not getting on any ladders anymore.

Sorry, no dogs but the cats fight for space on my lap. I can't have a dog because I can't take care of it with walking and cleaning up after it. Cats seem to take care of themselves. By the way, you never own a cat they think they are the masters.

Well said Mr Mule Packer, ……. can't out do you, won't even try. But as you said, all in all, life is pretty good. This has been a challenging, and even frightful, year for the Fordson family. Not our worst but one that will make us look forward to a better new year. Too warm here yet for the fire but it is cooling down which is good. Hope everyone has a wonderful and blessed Holliday .

Words to live by, Mule Packer. I value family, friends, food on the table and a roof over my head. It's all about people, nourishment and shelter. That's really all that's needed. You certainly said it more eloquently that I can ever hope to. Thanks for posting. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Mule Packer, You have it right, a warm fire, good food on the stove and some snow outside is the end of a perfect day. I know the feeling.

I hear ya', Mule Packer and Old 44 Guy.
Absolute golden by all the above posts.
I've always maintained that shelter, a soft bed, food in the cupboards and all my pets have been fed are blessings that I count as gifts from God, totally undeserved, but am always grateful for.

When I get worked up, a walk though the house and out around the place makes me feel good, a couple deer and the rooster begging for some corn. Good home cooked meal

I think I get a roast out ready for the crock pot along with some carrots, onions and spuds

Everything may not be right with the world. But, it seldom has has been.

As Mule Packer pointed out there is a whole lot right with the world
