RemArms will pull out what little manufacturing they still do in NY. They will be moving the operation to their new Headquarters and R&D facilities in Georgia. CEO says Georgia “supports and welcomes the firearms industry”. He also states “NYs unfriendly gun laws were a factor in the decision”. This sounds exactly like the statement Kahr Arms made when they announced in 2013 that they were leaving New York. That was shortly after the NY Safe Act was passed. The century old Remington plant sits along the Mohawk River in Illion NY. It is visible from the NY Thruway (I90). The building screams history. But I’m sure it will fall into disrepair and be demolished. This is a huge blow to the community. Politians are elected to create jobs and opportunities NOT chase them away.

Understanding governor Hochul she will consider them leaving a very positive thing for the state!

What took them so long?

I think the original Remington Arms Co had an allegiance , dedication, and commitment to the community that built them. The new owners felt no obligation to community or state. It was strictly business. Displaced workers will be offered jobs at new facilities. But we all know relocating is not possible for most. The sad part about this is the state only seemed to care about the tax breaks RemArms took as part of restructuring.

I saw a headline about this. Framed to sound like they were out of business. The antis will never stop.

Has any politician done this in many years now ?? Not in this part of the country I don’t think.

Hope I’m allowed to express this opinion without a violation of rules.

I dunno, To me It would be an inspiration to move to a state with more love and respect for our constitution. Maybe some will go for it. I wish the best of luck to everyone caught in this situation

I never knew New York was like it is. NY & PA, except for the Eastern sides of both states, have some beautiful country; lots of mountains and forests. I never knew how "different" NY is compared with PA until I bought that book/magazine about gun rules & transport regulations, etc., and what I learned from S&W Forum. One or two companies closing isn't going to affect the economy up there, besides the people who have to go find another job. Anyhow, good for RemArms I guess.

You are right. NY is one one of the most beautiful states I’ve seen. Adirondack mountains, allegany mountains, finger lakes, the Great Lakes. The list goes on and on. Most people don’t realize how much of the state is rural. But the problem with NY state is that it’s in NY.

That's why I'm still here!

My family emigrated to NY in 1894. They left their ancestral home for a better life. Someone has to stay to maintain the graves of all my ancestors.

Besides, some of us have to stay to maintain the voting booths. If too many **** or **** or **** overrun the state, it will be a shame.

(see I made you think without saying anything bad)

It’s not one or two companies; it’s dozens. RemArms is just the latest in a long line. The economy in western / upstate NY is trashed compared to, say, fifty years ago.

I don't know why it's so important to stay in NY due to your ancestors but the day after I left NY to live in Texas it was like a huge breath of fresh air. I was actually unprepared for the feeling of being "free" in so many ways, and suddenly truly understanding what it means to be a Texan. I never looked back.

GOOD FOR REMARMS! Way too long to get that done!

I once worked for a company in Cleveland which decided to relocate to Dallas. Most employees were offered the opportunity for paid relocation to the same jobs in a Texas, but many did not take it because all their families and friends were in the Cleveland area and had been forever. They just didn't think they could stand to leave their roots there. Given the difference of the winter weather between Cleveland and Dallas, the relocation decision should have been a no-brainer. One of the happiest days of my life was when I saw Cleveland in the rear view mirror. A horrible place to live.
