Polymer frame cleaning

How about using gasoline?

I have used gasoline for years. Take the grips off a Smith revolver a let it soak in gas, blow the gunk out with compressed air, soak some more, work the action, blow it out again. Continue until no more gunk comes out, the oil and blow the oil around and you are done. More wear is caused by completely stripping revolvers than needed.

I'm not talking about a revolver with gasoline, but rather a polymer pistol.

And I'm not suggesting I intend to do anything that stupid with a polymer. I just wanted to get some ammunition (LOL) to reply to an idiot on another forum.

You're supposed to clean polymer guns? Who knew?

Well, I dunno bout that, but I admit all I hear is complaining about how hard it is to disassemble Ruger early Mark pistols.

Turns out that you never have to take them down to clean anyway...

As an armorer, this thread reminded me of the annual department wide cleaning and inspections.....and the fact that I wish the craze over "CLP" had never happened. Talk about a misnomer. It's not an effective cleaner, it's substandard as a lubricant, and worthless at preventing oxidation.

Basically, it regularly created a pasty mess when the annual group "inspection and cleaning" came due. Rolls of defiled blue shop towels, the smell of solvent, and dirty Q-tips everywhere.

I can't believe some manufacturers are actually recommending this stuff. Awful. :(
